Product description

Synopsis
Rip Esselstyn shares the special four-week diet program that changed the lives of his fellow firefighters in Austin. When the former triathlete became aware that his colleagues had serious health issues--including high cholesterol--he introduced a diet based primarily on plants. He also coached them daily, with tips on nutrition and lifestyle, along with exercises that boosted their metabolism. In time, the guys in Engine 2 showed weight loss and better numbers. THE ENGINE 2 DIET includes many creative recipes for foods people will actually eat, many based on whole foods, fruits and vegetables, and nuts. It also includes advice for stocking the cupboard with good eats rather than junk. Esselstyn's common-sense plan, along with his special qualities as a coach and motivator, helped make THE ENGINE 2 DIET a best seller in the crowded diet book category.

Great book! Readable, factual, practical, with recipes!

Created: 03/02/10
I enjoyed reading the story of this tri-athalon winner / fireman, who has famous doctors on both his mom and dad's side and a strong family knowledge of health and nutrition. In his rigorous life as a fireman, his buddies began to notice a big difference between THEIR cholesterol, general health, etc., and HIS health. Since fitness is a life-saver in more ways than one for a fireman, who has to haul 75 lbs. of gear and still be able to get himself and someone else out of a fire, the Engine 2 plan got started. He includes records of the progress of the first groups to try switching to a plant-based diet. Though their aim was originally to lower cholesterol, many other benefits were observed, including weight loss. The plan has since spread to other firefighter groups and on into the mainstream news, etc. I am still using the book for recipes and inspiration, and even reading it aloud in bursts to MY HUSBAND! (Which is an amazing first! Who would believe he would be willing to listen to a diet book?) If you ever wondered why and how someone would go vegetarian, read this book!

The Engine 2 Diet by Rip Esselstyn (2009)

The author is very biased towards a vegitarian diet and stretches data towards this end. The diet did accomplish the health goals for his fellow workers and I applaud them. The dominating theme is that vegitarian diet is the only way to achieve the goal of weight control, fitness and ultimate health. I have personally seen these goals achieved on the old Weight Watchers Plan (a lady lost 312.5 lbs) and with the loss came energy and great health.

My goal is to eat a healthy Vegitarian diet 3 to 4 times a week to reduce my intake of meat. This book has aided in my knowledge and I am glad I bought it. I have already aided this goal by drinking soy milk rather than regular milk and I like the vanilla soy milk better. I would say it is a good book but not a great book.

RIP MAKES YOU WANT TO EAT HEALTHY EVERYDAY -SOUNDS SO EASY AND FUN!!
A PLANT BASED DIET IS DELICIOUS AND I LOVE THE RECIPES!!
HIS RESEARCH IS SO ACCURATE AND PEOPLE SHOULD BE MORE COMPASSIONATE ABOUT THEIR CHOICES CONSIDERING WHAT AND WHERE THEIR FOOD CAME FROM
HE PRESENTS IN A NO NONSENSE WAY AND ITS VERY INFORMATIVE
I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE!!

I love this book, there is nothing to dislike about it. If you want to heal your body then follow this life style. I purchased this book because I have high blood pressure and was taking 4 meds per day. Now after a short time I take generally one per day. My body is slowly healing, and I am 73 years young and feel like a million. I walk between 2 and 3 miles a day with energy to spare since reading Rip's book. I would recomend this book for anyone looking for a healthly life style.

Engine 2 Diet

I started this book just like the others I have purchased, after following this diet for a few days I weighted myself and lost 14 pounds. This is a vegan diet, but the food is wonderful. This is one worth its weight in gold.
