not bad for $35
Created: 11/12/10
well for $35 plus shipping for a native 3200x9600 8x12 scanner with USB2.0, 2" of lid-play and a film holder, it's not bad.
Certainly does a decent job scanning 35mm film which is the reason that I bought it. I do wish the V300 that I won at the same time (got caught between two auctions) had actually come in so I could compare it to this, but I think the V100 is fine for generating 30MP or so from 35mm film.
Just use the continuous automatic exposure mode, so far that is giving me the best results. One difference between the various modes, full-auto, home user and pro, is that the simplified modes use more noise-reduction in the scans so if you want the most detail out of your film use the pro mode. It's not much different, just set it to use CAE I also set the exposure to the minimum & the display-gamma to 1.9, turn off everything else and away you go.

Epson Perfection V100 Flatbed Scanner

It was a great bargain. For the price I bought it for it is a really great scanner. Obviously since its old, it doesn't scan as fast or as good as the new 100 dollar scanners that are out there, but for this price it is a great buy.

Problems solved!

Having photo prints I wanted to put on the computer, and an all-in-one printer which refuses to scan photo prints through the rollers, I needed a flat-bed scanner. This one filled the bill perfectly. Though used, it worked fine, and was very easy to operate, so now those photos are on the computer (and some have been emailed to family). The unit will apparently do other things (like email directly), but I haven't studied the manual I was able to easily download (along with driver information) from Epson, because it does what I wanted for the main purpose. It's much larger than I realized, but then to be useful a flat-bed has to be sizeable to accomodate larger documents. This model has been replaced by newer versions, it appears, but if you come across one while you are searching, it functions well and will work for you. Now, I think I just found another box of old pictures to work on!
