Not As Good As I Expected Or Needed
Created: 11/01/10
After reading all the reviews I could find on the types of printers I was interested in, this one had the best reviews with the least amount of 'problems' associated with it, and all but about 2 reviewers raved about it.
Well, I needed a wide format printer, and this one seemed to be what I needed. It's not. I have to 'play' with the photo editor to print large decent photos that still are not what I consider 'consumer quality.'
Which means wasted expensive photo paper and ink. The actual object in the photo prints out well, but not the background-it loses clarity and color every time. Especially the color.
Having a business (home-based) to run, I'm on a tight budget and this printer was a waste of my money. For wide format photos anyway. The 4x6 photos print out nicely, just not on the less expensive photo paper.
I will probably send it back to Epson for a refund, and continue looking for a better wide format printer......I need a 'what you see on the screen, is what you get in the photo' printer, so I guess I'll just have to keep looking, as my old printer, which gave me those kinds of photos, finally bit the dust. It was also an Epson, which is why I really thought all those reviews were acurate.
So I'm totally disappointed in Epson, and all the hype put out on this printer.

Why I have already put ink in this printer. Love IT!
Created: 08/04/09
I LOVE this printer!!!! That's why I have already had to put more black ink in this printer. First of all that means I printed a bunch of pictures because for a photo printer this one uses less ink than any I have ever used before. I also love that the ink is seperate so if I use up one color it's the only one I have to change out. I love that you can print BIG pictures. I have gone crazy printing on BIG paper 13x19...everyone in my family has a big picture I have printed. I even bought some canvas paper and have printed some on canvas and they turned out GREAT! I researched for awhile before buying this one and decided it was the best buy. The one I got came with a cord, so I didn't have to buy that and the software it comes with is good software if you don't already have a photo editing program. I would buy another one of these printers in a heartbeat.

The Best Printer For Photos Period
Created: 08/01/10
This printer is amazing when printing on glossy photo paper. I have used many printers over the years, and not being an expert, I was overwhelmed at the print quality and the oversized prints. This is not for the person who needs do printing cheaply, as the inks, and paper are quite high in comparison to other printers. It's only function is to print, no scan or fax, but what it does do, it does very very well. Good job Epson!!!

Nice solid unit
Created: 09/04/10
I purchsaed this unit as an upgrade to my Epson r380. I wanted to be able to print larger (up to 13") without the higher cost of the higher end units. This unit has fit my needs perfectly. Print speed doesn't really affect me, but I know it is not the fastest. I only use it for the big prints and use another printer for smaller stuff. I did notice that the R1400 prints darker than my R380. Since I do not have calibration software, I just try to eyeball it before printing to get it close. Ink is around $40 on ebay from vendors and then I bring my 6 used cartridges to Staples for $18 in rewards. So at the end I am looking at about $22 per set of cartridges...which isn't too bad.
This is a nice printer to print from home for friends and family. If you want professional prints, I would recommend sending the images out to the pros.

Epson Stylus 1400 inkjet printer review
Created: 10/04/11
The Epson 1400 ink-jet printer is a mid priced printer with high end results.
Capable of doing prints as large as 13"x 19" The quality of prints fall just short of gallery exhibition prints but outstanding prints none the less for professional looking finish. Well suited for professional photographers making their own prints. Capable of quality using the Cobra ink jet system, making it economical with outstanding quality. I highly recommend this printer for the professional or amateur. I am completely satisfied with the capabilities of this printer for the price as I will the next Epson 1900. Epson in my opinion is still the leader in ink jet printers and technology. Respectfully Crockett2008
