Product description

Synopsis
When a 15-year-old peasant boy named Eragon finds a mysterious blue stone, he thinks he might be able to sell it in order to buy food for his poor family. He is understandably surprised, then, when the stone turns out to be a dragon's egg from which a female dragon named Saphira soon hatches. Eragon then learns that he is a descendent of the Riders, a band of dragon-riding warriors believed to have been destroyed by the evil King Galbatroix. When a tragedy sends Eragon out on a quest to seek revenge, he learns that fate has different plans in store for him and Saphira. This, the first book in the Inheritance trilogy, was written when the home-schooled author was himself 15 years old.

Industry Reviews
"[P]aolini manages to combine his own characters with prototypical plot developments in relatively original ways, and makes up for all the scene-setting with a rousing battlefield payoff. That should be enough to satisfy the insatiable appetites of hardcore fantasy readers, who will certainly be on the lookout for the upcoming sequel."
Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books - Janice M. Del Negro (12/01/2003)

"Paolini, who was 15 years old himself when he began this book, takes the near-archetypes of fantasy fiction and makes them fresh and enjoyable, chiefly through a crisp narrative and a likable hero."

Eragon

Created: 14/12/05
Eragon by teen author Christopher Paolini, the first book in the Inheritance Trilogy, tells an engaging tale of dragons, magic and adventure. The main character of this best selling fantasy book is Eragon, a 15-year-old farm boy in Alagaesia. When hunting in the Spine, a mountain range near his home village Carvahall, Eragon finds a blue stone that happens to be a dragon egg. After the egg hatches, Eragon raises the dragon secretly and names her Saphira. The evil Ra'zac sent by the King Galbatorix kills Eragon's uncle and destroys his home. Accompanied by old storyteller Brom, Eragon and his dragon sets out on a treacherous journey full of twists and turns. Toward the end of the story, Eragon the Dragon Rider, his newly made friend Murtagh, and Saphira arrive at Tronjheim, where the rebel force called the Varden is located. A big battle is fought in which Eragon helps defeat the enemies sent by the king. Likable protagonists and an interesting plot make it an entertaining book for both young adults and adults to read.

Astounding Story FROM a 15 y/o! Just like Harry Potter

Created: 27/11/06
I had this book recommended to me as I enjoy stories about fantasy with Dragons, Elves, and magic. If you like those themes, then this is the book for you regardless of your age. Its like Lord of the Rings meets Harry Potter, but in a completely unexpected way. Its about a young boy, Eragon, who comes across a shiney blue stone by chance, which turns out to be a dragon egg that hatches before him. He is now the new owner of this Dragon and is on his way to coming the next 'Rider' (good-doers). And of course there is an Evil Empire that needs taking down.

What I loved about this book was how simple it was, yet intriguing. For example, they way the describe the use of magic: all spells take a certain level of strength (similiar to that of lifting heavy items) and the more powerful the spell, the more you exert youself. Thus if you exert yourself too much, you'll over exert your capacity and die (don't attempt time travel).

I can't wait to start reading the next in the series, Eldest. And its amazing that all this was written from a home schooled 15 year old boy. Recommended for all ages.

A Great Fantasy Book!

Created: 06/08/06
This is an excellent book! It is the first in the Inheritance Trilogy. It is about a boy, Eragon, who finds a dragon egg. After the egg hatches he raises the dragon and names her Saphira. Soon though, his home is destroyed and his uncle is killed by the evil Ra’zac who are in search of the dragon egg. He then leaves on a journey full of adventure and danger where he learns of his new abilities as a dragon rider and what is really going on in his land of Alagaësia. I loved this book, I couldn’t put it down. I kept wanting to know what would happen next!

Mystifying!

Created: 04/10/06
I loved this book! I have shared it with other people I know. I still can't believe that Christopher Paolini was 15 years old when he wrote this. I was easily transported to the world he created. I even read the Sequel, Eldest. I am anticipating the completion of the trilogy as well as the new movie based on Eragon that is supposed to be released soon! I highly recommend this book!! You will become addicted!

Eragon an Excellent Read

Created: 04/08/07
I usually read Hard Sci-Fiction and not Fantasy Sci-Fi but I saw this in an Airport and NEEDED a book to read...It was a really intense book...I couldn't put it down...It is about a Dragon/Boy Rider and the special "mind meld" bond they form to battle the Evil King and his minions across a idyllic landscape...It is a simple story line but the imagery is unique and fun to read...There are Elves, Evil Minions of many shapes, Heroic Sad Figures, Pathetic Magicians, Ignorant Peasants, Noble Kinsmen & Seemingly Doomed Rebels...There are twists and turns with every page...I especially enjoy the Dragon...She is lovely...There is a Sequel "Elder" that I have purchased and will read...This is an EXCELLENT Fantasy Sci-Fi read and I would recommend it for all ages...
