Album Notes
To get an idea of exactly how many Ronnie Milsap collections are on the market, just turn to the back page of the booklet for RCA/Legacy's 2006 double-disc set The Essential Ronnie Milsap, where it lists other Ronnie albums you might also enjoy. There are ten listed, all but one of them a compilation (that would be his very, very good 2006 comeback, My Life). Which begs the natural question, is The Essential Ronnie Milsap needed? Especially since there is already another compilation called The Essential Ronnie Milsap (dating from 1995), and there already was an excellent double-disc set called 40 #1 Hits released six years earlier? The answer is, yes it is, particularly since 40 #1 Hits has fallen out of print. Of course, it also helps that Essential is an expertly chosen and sequenced collection of Milsap's best work, from 1973's "(All Together Now) Let's Fall Apart" and running all the way to 1989's "A Woman in Love." Most of this material was on 40 #1 Hits, so if you already own that, there's not much need for this, but this has a slight edge over the previous comp because it has a greater concentration of his prime material and is very listenable; its non-chronological sequencing works for it, since it emphasizes the consistently high quality of his hits singles. So, even if there is a surplus of Milsap collections out on the market, this superb set indeed proves that there's always room for another good one. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

The Essential Ronnie Milsap (2006)

Created: 15/05/07
This is a good compilation of Ronnie Milsap's hit making days, as it includes most of his hits while he was at RCA Records - however, the out of print '40 #1 Hits' has a better selection of songs, and it also has the hit 'Don't You Know How Much I Love You' (from 'Keyed Up') that this release doesn't have. Other hits missing are 'Old Folks' (duet with Mike Reid0, and 'Button Off Of My Shirt' (from 'Heart And Soul'), 'All Is Fair In Love And War', and 'Turn That Radio On' (from 'Back In The Grindstone), 'She Loves My Car' (from 'One More Try For Love'), and 'L.A. To The Moon' (from 'Greatest Hits, Vol. 3') Also, be sure not to get this release confused with the 20 track 1995 release also called 'The Essential Ronnie Milsap' that is now out of print. Overall, a good retrospective of Ronnie's hit making days at RCA Records for a good price.

RONNIE MILSAP ESSENTIAL

Excellent! Strongest voice in the history of country music. Remember when artists could sing. I have looked long and hard for a Ronnie Milsap collection that includes "Nobody Likes Sad Songs". This song alone is worth the price of the CD and yet it is apparently left off other of his greatest hits compilations. This CD has about 40 hits. Exceptional value.

Essential Ronnie Milsap...Essentially Necessary!

I love this album. A two disc greatest hits with 40 tracks. It can be a bit pricey so take your time on your searches. It has all his hits that you love "Pure Love" "I wouldn't have missed it (for the world)" and "Smokey Mountain Rain" A personal favorite. Ronnie has a lot of albums out, many of which are availabe here on eBay, but for me, this sees to be THE ONE that's worth your money.
