Self-admittedly striving for the diversity of the Beatles, Cornell has succeeded in making music that breathes the same kind of emotion with a healthy '90s updating. Songs such as "Follow My Way" and "Can't Change Me" find the former Soundgarden frontman tossing Indian flourishes into the mix while "When I'm Down" is delivered with the kind of elan that says even grunge-gods have soul.Elsewhere, Cornell dips a toe into the sounds of his youth by including the murky "Mission" and more ethereal "Pillow of Your Dreams," a pair of tracks guaranteed to hearten fans of his former group. The true highlights of EUPHORIA MORNING come when Cornell pushes himself, whether on the sonically rich "Disappearing One" or "Wave Goodbye," a sinewy funk number that doubles as a tribute to the late Jeff Buckley.

Editorial Reviews
...Musically downbeat, lyrically full of distance and loneliness, its intricate and often understated songs have a black undercurrent....Bedsit-metal cuts like 'Sweet Euphoria', 'Steel Rain' and 'Flutter Girl' are among my favorites...
Mojo

3 out of 5 - ...intelligent, introspective music that draws equally from the psychedelic experimentation of the late Beatles and the operatic histronics of Queen, as well as from more contemporary influences as Jeff Buckley and Radiohead...
Alternative Press (19991001)

3 stars out of 5 - ...[big] on songwriterly grace. Building on a slow rock framework, these 12 songs have much to offer....The bid for adulthood occasionally spells acoustic dirge, but otherwise a good effort.
Q (19991001)

...[Cornell] delves back into '60s psychedelic melodies and acoustic dities, to moving effect. Fans will hear much of the punch and yowl they yearn for - only with more refined melodies and Cornell's character finally clarified. - Rating: B+f
Entertainment Weekly (19990924)

3.5 stars out of 5 - ...proves you can get sappy while continuing to radiate the kind of heat that wilts daises at fifty paces....if you're looking to be viscerally and intellectually bowled over, this is music that satisfies the need.

Great backing musicians.

I actually never heard of Cornell before. I bought the album Euphoria Morning because the husband-wife team Alain Johannes and Natasha Shneider of the excellent band "Eleven" provide backup vocals and instruments for this recording. I have to say that I was not disappointed as their unique sound came through loud and clear. The songwriting and production of the recording held my interest even after many listens. The single from the album "Can't Change Me" was actually the weakest and most predictable, but it got much better from there. I would certainly recommend this if you are a fan of Eleven or any of Chris Cornell's work with Soundgarden (I guess, since I am only marginally familiar with this band, owning only "Superunknown".)

Chris Cornell - Euphoria Morning

Created: 25/09/08
Chris Cornell is truly one of the best male rock vocalists of our time! He is formally trained in voice/music, has a great range (pitch, texture and emotion) but has a rhaspy, sincere tone which lends soulfulness to all he does. I think this album, like his newest ("Carry On"), is mellower than one would expect if all they have heard is his work with Soundgarden or Audioslave. I liked Soundgarden, loved Audioslave and love Chris Cornell on his own... amazed this album never seemed to have any hits. Maybe it's just too hard to classify?

A Really Strong Album From The Soundgarden Frontman

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
Created: 18/09/11
Throughout my grade school years and on into high school, Soundgarden was my favorite band. I loved their eclectic grunge sound and the diversity of songs on albums like "Superunknown" and "Down on the Upside." Needless to say I was pretty disappointed when they split, but Chris Cornell has helped mend that loss with his solo career. I loved "Euphoria Morning" from the start, even though it sounds almost nothing like Cornell's earlier musical offerings with Thayil, Shepherd and Cameron. His solo work is much more moody and acoustic-driven, two adjectives that could never really be applied to Soundgarden. My favorites from this album are "Can't Change Me," "Flutter Girl," "Follow My Way," "Moonchild," "Disappearing One," and "Pillow of Your Bones." Those songs represent half of the album, and the other songs are also pretty decent. I don't own too many albums where I love half the songs, which is high praise for Cornell's debut solo album.

Very Good Solo effort from Audioslave Frontman!

Created: 13/08/06
This disc was after Soundgarden and before Audioslave. This disc is very good and shows the raw vocal power of one of Rocks best Lead vocalist! This disc went under the radar--Not alot of hype or Airplay, but, a very good effort! Highly Recommended!
