Publisher's Note
In her hit Food Network show Everyday Italian, Giada De Laurentiis shows you how to cook delicious, beautiful food in a flash. And here, in her long-awaited first book, she does the same—helps you put a fabulous dinner on the table tonight, for friends or just for the kids, with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of flavor. She makes it all look easy, because it is.

Everyday Italian is true to its title: the fresh, simple recipes are incredibly quick and accessible, and also utterly mouth-watering—perfect for everyday cooking. And the book is focused on the real-life considerations of what you actually have in your refrigerator and pantry (no mail-order ingredients here) and what you’re in the mood for—whether a simply sauced pasta or a hearty family-friendly roast, these great recipes cover every contingency. So, for example, you’ll find dishes that you can make solely from pantry ingredients, or those that transform lowly leftovers into exquisite entrées (including brilliant ideas for leftover pasta), and those that satisfy your yearning to have something sweet baking in the oven. There are 7 ways to make red sauce more interesting, 6 different preparations of the classic cutlet, 5 perfect pestos, 4 creative uses for prosciutto, 3 variations on basic polenta, 2 great steaks, and 1 sublime chocolate tiramisù—plus 100 other recipes that turn everyday ingredients into speedy but special dinners.

What’s more, Everyday Italian is organized according to what type of food you want tonight—whether a soul-warming stew for Sunday supper, a quick sauté for a weeknight, or a baked pasta for potluck. These categories will help you figure out what to cook in an instant, with such choices as fresh-from-the-pantry appetizers, sauceless pastas, everyday roasts, and stuffed vegetables—whatever you’re in the mood for, you’ll be able to find a simple, delicious recipe for it here. That’s the beauty of Italian home cooking, and that’s what Giada De Laurentiis offers here—the essential recipes to make a great Italian dinner. Tonight.

Presents techniques of Italian home cookery, including more than one hundred recipes and advice on creating dishes for everyday meals and special occasions.

Great for Beginners!

Created: 15/12/09
I have this cookbook at home and bought an additional copy to give as a gift. Everyday Italian is perfect for a "beginner" cook who wants to make easy, delicious, versatile meals. The marinara sauce freezes great, and I use it for vegetable soup and chile too! The recipes have manageable ingredient lists and easy to follow directions. If you like Giada's cooking show you will love this book!

Don't waste your $$ Poor quality. No text recipes

I have to admit that I am a fan of Giada's cooking and I had great expectations when I ordered this set. They were however crushed. While I still love Giada's cooking, this set is just a way for Food Network to make money. They really cheated with these DVD’s. All they have are the video from the show, no text recipes, no link to the on line shows and no computer support. They play in Windows media player but the set does not contain the recipes. You can get more by taping the shows and then going to the web to download recipes. Another disappointment is the so so transfer quality to DVD. Perhaps I've been spoiled by HD and Tivo but the older shows I've recorded have had better playback quality than the episodes on the DVD's. It is in the old 480p but the quality of the transfer to DVD is dark and about the same quality as your average old VHS tape, not DVD quality. I get the impression Food Network got cheap and subbed out the DVD transfer to the lowest bidder (China?) and it shows.

I could watch Giada read the dictionary and her cooking is really first rate. But, that’s all you get is watching Giada. Thank god she is easy to understand and her recipes are easy to follow. But to get consistent results on some of the dishes, you should search the web and find the hard copies. While Giada herself is great, this set is a waste of money. You’re better off recording the shows and going to the web to get the recipes you want or, better yet, just stick with her cookbooks which are all first rate and worlds above this cheap presentation.

One of my favourite cookbooks ever!

Created: 13/04/07
I bought this book because I'd always liked watching her show and got tired of printing out each recipe one by one. Since I received it, I've made several different recipes and they've all been fantastic! I highly recommend the Salmon Baked in Foil, the Chicken Spezzatino (a thick chicken and vegetable stew) and the Pasta Primavera (pasta and roasted vegetables). The White Beans and Tuna Salad and the Verdure Al Forno (baked vegetables with cream, bread crumbs and cheese) are also very good, but not quite as drool-inducing as the aforementioned recipes. One of my favourite things about the book is that the recipes always seem to turn out just as you think they should, and she's not afraid to admit (even suggest) that using canned ingredients is acceptable (and time-saving). This book makes me feel like I've made a new friend who just happens to be a chef, and who allows, and encourages, you to believe that you can make these recipes just like she does, with excellent results! I am greatly looking forward to more wonderful culinary adventures with these recipes.

GOOD RECIPES

Created: 24/08/10
I LIKE ALL THE ITALIAN RECIPES IN THIS BOOK. SOME OF THE INGREDIENTS ARE HARD TO FIND AND WHEN FOUND THEY ARE EXPENSIVE. HOWEVER, THE OVERALL FINISHED DISH IS GOOD. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK IF YOU DO NOT LIKE COOKING WITH FRESH HERBS. SOME HERBS ARE OVER POWERING TO A DISH. IF YOUR UNABLE TO GET THE PRECISE MEASUREMENT FOR AN HERB IT COULD OVER POWER THE TASTE OF THE OTHER INGREDIENTS. INGREDIENTS SUCH AS PANCHETTA, MASCARPONE CHEESE AND PROSCIUTTO ARE HARD TO FIND AND VERY EXPENSIVE. MOST OF THE RECIPES IN THIS BOOK ARE EXPENSIVE SO I WOULD SAVE ONE OF THE EXPENSIVE DISHES FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION AND NOT FOR EVERY DAY COOKING.
