Publisher's Note
The first collection of stories Stephen King has published since Nightmares & Dreamscapes nine years ago, Everything's Eventual includes one O. Henry Prize winner, two other award winners, four stories published by The New Yorker, and "Riding the Bullet," King's original e-book, which attracted over half a million online readers and became the most famous short story of the decade.

"Riding the Bullet," published here on paper for the first time, is the story of Alan Parker, who's hitchhiking to see his dying mother but takes the wrong ride, farther than he ever intended. In "Lunch at the Gotham Café," a sparring couple's contentious lunch turns very, very bloody when the maître d' gets out of sorts. "1408," the audio story in print for the first time, is about a successful writer whose specialty is "Ten Nights in Ten Haunted Graveyards" or "Ten Nights in Ten Haunted Houses," and though Room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel doesn't kill him, he won't be writing about ghosts anymore. And in "That Feeling, You Can Only Say What It Is In French," terror is déjà vu at 16,000 feet.

Whether writing about encounters with the dead, the near dead, or about the mundane dreads of life, from quitting smoking to yard sales, Stephen King is at the top of his form in the fourteen dark tales assembled in Everything's Eventual. Intense, eerie, and instantly com-pelling, they announce the stunningly fertile imagination of perhaps the greatest storyteller of our time.

This is a great collection of short stories and being a Stephen King fan and now read most of his works, I can say that he never falters on keeping his constant readers happy. I really enjoyed "The Road Virus Heads North", for you can feel the terror as it builds. I myself have written a short story book "A Fire's Shadow by John Henry Clark" that was released in June 09 and have had feed backs of the same type. This is the best thing for an author. Knowing that someone really enjoyed their work and felt compelled to write about it. Stephen has a new book coming out in Nov. Keep up the great work and I recommend this for anyone who reads. Yours ever after, John Henry Clark

WOW! Goose Bumps!

Created: 06/12/05
Wow, what a great read! This is a great collection of scary stories from mind of Stephen King. One story imparticular gave me goosebumps...and I've read a lot of scary stories! I can't tell you which one it is either! :) The stories do vary to keep things interesting. If you have not read this book, or are somewhat new to King's writing, this would be a good one to start with. Due to the excitement of reading the book, I thought the same would be felt listening to the CD Audiobook. This was not the case. Although it was still a good listen, especially on a long drive, the emotion that was felt when reading the book was different than what was being heard by someone else. So, thats just something to keep in mind, not particularly promoting one over the other, but if I had to choose I would choose the book.

King is a master of many genres but I will always love his short stories. This book is no exception, one story after another rocks in its own right. I was thrilled that Roland of Gilead even had a story here. Worth reading again and again.
