A classic and gritty riff opens "Mean Street," and Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth are off and running. "Sinner's Swing" is a hard-rock take on the big-band sound, with Mr. Roth successfully capturing the vibe of the swing era. "Unchained" contains Eddie's hyperactive riffs and majestic soloing, while "When Push Comes To Shove" features a funky bassline by Michael Anthony, and a slinky rap from Roth. "So This Is Love" contains a sing-along chorus and a fluid, blues-based solo. Capping off the album is a synthesizer solo that foreshadows the 1984 album.
If it's not broke, don't fix it--Van Halen relied for quite a while on the same infectious hard-rock formula that makes FAIR WARNING a winner. The album is questionably their finest moment and is a perfect place to start exploring one of hard rock's premier outfits.

Van Halen were at their best during the early 80's. This has 9 tracks including faves like Mean Streets, Dirty Movies, Unchained, Push Comes to Shove, So This Is Love, One Foot Out The Door. With David Lee Roth on vocals these are great. I like Sammy Hagar too, but in my opinion Roth was a better singer. Eddy Van Halen on guitar was fantastic. I listened to this music back in high school and still like it, they knew how to rock and made some truly unique music! If you love Van Halen you already know it's good, if you love rock add it to your cd's.

THE BEST VAN HALEN CD
Created: 28/06/10
PEOPLE OFTEN SAY THE FIRST VAN HALEN CD IS THE BEST BUT THAT JUST ISNT TRUE. FAIR WARNING IS BY FAR THE BEST BECAUSE OF THE GRITTY ATTITUDE THROUGHOUT THIS CD. WHILE THE FIRST CD WAS MORE OF A PARTY CD,FAIR WARNING IS MORE SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS SOUNDING CD. THE SONGS ARE BETTER TOO. MEAN STREET,HEAR ABOUT IT LATER,UNCHAINED,SO THIS IS LOVE?,AND ONE FOOT OUT THE DOOR IS VAN HALEN AT THEIR BEST.

The Best Of The Best !
Created: 20/08/09
This record is absolutely the greatest offering from America's premiere rock band. Any collection without this release, is missing out on the true attitude and instumental prowess of the Mighty Van Halen. The frustration within the band during this period clearly shines through in the music, as it's the darkest, most angst driven record in their catalog. It's simply the guitar players guitar record.....Eddie at his absolute best.
Fair Warning is Van Halen's Sgt.Pepper, Dark Side Of The Moon, and Electric Ladyland, all rolled into one !
