Movie synopsis

This captivating and heart-wrenching South African production is a story of one man’s struggle for a better life for himself and his family. Angus Buchan is a Scottish farmer living in Zambia when the area’s constant political turmoil finally leads him to believe he must settle in a new country if he ever hopes to be truly prosperous. But, after settling into the agriculturally fruitful KwaZulu Midlands, the family Buchan come to realize that starting a new life isn’t necessarily going to be easy. Angus starts on a downward spiral of despair from which only a momentous restoration of faith can save him. Told partially in the Zulu language, FAITH LIKE POTATOES is a remarkably life-affirming film.

The film is based on the true story of Angus Buchan (Frank Rautenbach), a Scottish farmer who moved to South Africa to seek his farming fortune. What he finds is a land plagued with violence and harsh agricultural conditions, which don't mix well with his fiery temper. One day, while at church, Frank has an epiphany and chooses to follow the Lord. From that point on, his life changes dramatically. His temper has gone and preaching his testimony becomes a nearly full-time job.
His faith will be put to the test in the face of a staggering loss, the omnipresent threat of violence towards his family and a particularly brutal famine that may wipe him out.

The true story about a Scottish farmer in South Africa and his newfound relationship with God. This movie it's a powerful, inspiring and sometimes heartbreaking story, told well, shot well and acted like a champ.

Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! :)

What the world needs now.

Created: 29/08/10
A wonderful movie based on a true story. It drives home the absolute necessity of having faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of our Living God in Heaven. He hears our prayers and answers them everyday. We need to love one another even as God love us. We need to have faith and pray without a shadow of doubt. He blesses us with miracles in our times of great need. Now is the time to put our total faith in Jesus Christ who died on the Cross for our sins and ask him to come into our hearts and forgive us of our sins. Have total faith without doubt that the Lord is with us and walks with us and sometimes carries us during hard painful times 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our constant mission in life should be to spread God's Word in the Holy Bible to as many people as we can. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life and no man can have eternal life in Heaven without accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Soul winning should be our number 1 priority in life. With all the chaos in the world happening now, we need God more than ever to bring peace in the world and take greed out of our hearts. May God Bless America and heal this nation with his Holy Power and walk with us and talk with us everyday during our prayer time with him. We all need to ask ourselves the question..."If I died today, would I go to Heaven?" If you would just take the time to bow you're head and pray to God right now and ask Jesus Christ to come into you're Heart and forgive you of you're sins, he will and you're life will change immediately and forever. The life we have on this earth is but a short spark of time in all of eternity, however, life in Heaven is forever.

An Inspiring Film for the Whole Family

Created: 09/01/10
Having enjoyed Christian-themed movies like "Fireproof" and "Facing the Giants," I chose to purchase the DVD "Faith Like Potatoes. This movie, like the two afore-mentioned movies, is inspiring in that it depicts an individual's life before and after chosing to follow God.

I had never before heard of Angus Buchan, the man whose story is told in this movie, and must admit to being impressed to learn that not only does he exist, but that he also has a powerful testimony to share. There are a few elements in the movie that may be disturbing to younger/sensitive children, as before Angus found the Lord, he was a pretty frustrated and bitter man. (There's some drinking/smoking/mild language at first, as well as an accident scene.) All-in-all though, the movie is engaging and the story is uplifting.

Unfortunately, some of the early dialog is quite softly spoken, and my husband and I found ourselves asking, "Huh? What did he/she say?" But never fear...just hit the back-button on the DVD player. We also missed some dialog as a result of the language dialects: Mr. Buchan is Scottish, and his employees are South African.

The "extras" include a 54-minute documentary on the "real" Angus Buchan. We found the first 25-30 minutes to be interesting...after that, it began to sound like an Angus Buchan "infommercial."

Overall, my family and I enjoyed this movie and intend to keep in in our collection.

Such a great story of faith. True story of Angus Buchan, a scottish man living in South Africa with his wife and family. This movie will touch your heart, I promise. After you watch the movie, make time for the documentary on the same dvd showing the real live Angus. It's just as good as the movie.

Great movie that any farmer & every good parent should relate to!

Another great story of acting on faith, and based on a true story, Faith Like Potatoes is an excellent, real life example of making huge decisions based on faith in a higher power. It is an example every farmer the world over can understand, and if you are a parent who cares about providing for your family, and can understand what it means to struggle to provide, this movie will hit close to home.

Every farmer can relate to the frustrations the family in the movie faced: We can control when we plant, what we plant, how much we plant, and sometimes where we plant, but when it comes down to it, each farmer's success or failure for any given year hinges on things outside his/her control, primarily in the weather. Sometimes, you have to act on faith, and just let go and let God. This is something that does not come easy for someone used to working hard to provide for their family, finding success in hard work, not in chance or coincidence.

But sometimes hard work isn't enough - it takes a leap of faith. So what do you put your trust in? What does it mean to put your whole life on the line to do what you believe is right?

This movie is all about letting go and letting God, putting EVERYTHING on the line for what you believe you should do, knowing that God's got it under control, you don't, and success lies in acknlowleging that, seeking God's direction, and then committing to your decision, no matter what others say.
