Faith of My Fathers (DVD, 2005)

Peter Markle, Scott Glenn, Shawn Hatosy|Theatrical release: 2005 | Rating: PG-13 (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Based on 2004 presidential candidate Senator John McCain's memoir of the same name, this A&E drama traces the horrors McCain suffered as a Vietnamese prisoner of war, and his heroism in the face of dire hardship. McCain (played by Shawn Hatosy) was raised by a family of career military men; his grandfather served next to Admiral Bull Halsey in WWII, and his father was a superior submarine commander. McCain follows in their footsteps in many regards, and when he finds himself helming a bombing mission over North Vietnam in 1967, he courageously carries out his orders despite the immanence of grave danger. Consequently, he is shot down, captured by the enemy, and subjected to frequent torture and inhumane conditions. His broken arm and leg goes virtually untreated, and yet he refuses to lose heart in an inspirational testimony to the strength of the human spirit. The story unfolds in flashbacks, showing how, over the course of five years as a POW, McCain is forced to choose between his country and his survival, and finds the strength of his ancestors within himself.

McCain's Story

Created: 13/06/08
This truly tells the story of John McCain's great service to our country, as well as all the pain he had to endure. McCain is a man of strength and is a hero. This movie will make you respect his service to our country. John McCain will make our country first priority, and his party second, as president.

GOOD MOVIE!

Created: 12/06/10
I BOUGHT THIS MOVIE TO REPLACE A LOST COPY FROM THE LIBRARY MY SON CHECKED OUT. I WATCHED IT AND REALIZED IT WAS JOHN MCCAIN'S STORY. I AM A VIET NAM VET AND APPRECIATED THE CHARACTER THAT JOHN MCCAIN DISPLAYED THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE. I FEEL BADLY THAT HE LET HIS CAMPAIGN MANAGERS SET THE DIRECTION FOR SARAH PALIN AS HIS RUNNING MATE. IF HE HAD LET HER BE HERSELF, HE WOULD BE IN OFFICE RIGHT NOW INSTEAD OF OBAMA.

OH WELL, LIVE AND LEARN.

I am a huge John McCain fan and really enjoyed the movie when it originally aired on TV. I wanted to buy it to make sure I would be able to show it to my kids years down the road. It shows the sacrifices made by service members to preserve our freedom here in the United States of America.

I really loved this movie. I wish more people knew about it and would take the time to see it. This shows how much John McCain went thru. I think this helped shape how he looks at things. I loved how this movie was done.
