The Pitts Again...
Created: 14/05/09
In The Pitt, the second DLC to add on to Fallout 3, you are faced with a rather tough and game-altering decision: will you help to free slaves from some less-than-honorable musclemen; or will you side with the slaves, ensure their freedom, and endorse a possible cure for mutation?
GRAPHICS: 8/10
Same stunning quality as Fallout 3 with some minor defects. In my opinion, the teture quality was a bit poor, given the dark scenery of post-apocalyptic Pittsburg. It seems that instead of trying to perfect their texture in this DLC, Bethesda tried to hide it with a gloomy, overcast world. Also, there are a few glitches where you cannot see ANYTHING if you are pointed in a certain direction. Though this can happen from time to time, it is MUCH more prevalent in The Pitt.
CONTROLS: 9/10
Same as Fallout 3, once again. Still, the only complaint I can muster up against the controls is the sensitivity issue with the x-axis. Although easy to fix in the game options menu, this makes gameplay less smooth and can even be a nusance at times.
GAMEPLAY: 9/10
Basically the same brilliance as the main game, but with a zesty twist. Instead of being thrown into the conflict, this time you ARE the conflict. Instead of simply being a mediator for other people's problems, you are the problem, making the outcome go one way or the other based on your decision of whom to side with. There are two main things that mess with the decent gameplay though: namely, the ingot collecting bit and the strict no-followers allowed thing. Firstly, the ingot collection task is a pain at best. The steel ingots are hard to find near the end and there are 100 of them. Yep. 100. Second, the fact that you can't bring a follower is kind of lame. The Pitt boasts some pretty tough new mutants (called Trogs) and followers would be especially usefull when a couple million of them attack you all at once. The one thing that makes up for both of these is the auto-axe and the metal blaster. Though all the other special weapons and special armor in the DLC basically suck, these two beautes keep the spirit of rare item-hunting alive.
OVERALL: 8.7/10
Even though it has its shortcomings, I would strongly reccommend buying The Pitt. If not for anything else, its nice to have the metal blaster (a TRI-BEAM laser rifle) at your side. Plus, if you do things right, theres a machine where you can MAKE ammo. Very useful. Happy Gaming!
