Movie synopsis

In Alan Parker's FAME, teenagers selected for New York City's High School for the Performing Arts push their talents to the limit to make it big in show business. This episodic tale follows savvy Coco (Irene Cara), timid Doris (Maureen Teefy), gay Montgomery (Paul McCrane), macho Raul (Barry Miller), soulful Bruno (Lee Curreri), and others as they struggle to achieve their dreams of stardom while coping with the universal teenage problems of loneliness, insecurity, and embattled, mercurial identity.Cara, electric as the budding songstress Coco, shines brightest in the infectiously exuberant young cast. The film, which won Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song, overflows at each corner of its loosely unfolding narrative with inspired music and dance numbers that seem to burst forth spontaneously out of sheer irrepressible emotion. With FAME (later developed into a hit television series), Parker finds a happy medium between the wildly diverging tones of his previous two features, the goofy kids-as-gangsters musical BUGSY MALONE and the harrowing prison thriller MIDNIGHT EXPRESS, and in doing so creates an enjoyable, glittering portrait of guileless teenage ambition.

Original Fame DVD

I bought the DVD for my 24 yr old daughter. She was talking about this "New" movie being made. So I told her about the original & was shocked to find a copy on Ebay.
I was surprised at the quality. And I hadnt remembered a lot about the movie.
It touches on some topics that still need addressed today.
Both my daughters enjoyed it (24 & 15). And noted how clothing patterns & styles come back in around.
The music is good. Overall a good movie for the price.

Fame movie

I loved the Fame television series, but I did not like the Fame movie at all. The Fame movie didn't have a real plot or flow very well. The Fame television series was clean and had moral and inspirational lessons to be learned from them. The Fame television series showed how important good teachers and good friends are. The Fame television series makes you want to be a good teacher and a good friend to kids.

Fame (DVD, 2003)

I love this movie. I suggest anyone wanting to see the new movie should see the original first. I enjoyed the original because the characters have depth. The writers developed the characters stories so as the story when on you felt a kinship to the character. You felt for the character and understood the emotions the character was going through. The new movie was cute but lack the character depth. Therefore you really didn't care about the characters. This is a good movie.
