Family Guy - Volume 1: Seasons 1 & 2 (DVD, 2009, 4-Disc Set, iTunes Sampler)

Theatrical release: 1999 | Rating: Not Rated

Movie synopsis

Peter Griffin yearns to be a champion dad for his family, but in his attempts he only winds up making a ridiculous fool of himself. While he looks over his two teenagers and his baby (who has an English accent and is keen on dominating the world), it's abundantly clear that the family dog is the smartest member of the Griffin clan. This collection contains 28 episodes of irreverent humor combining the satire of The Simpsons with the gross-out slapstick of South Park during the animated show's unfortunately short run.

The Funniest Animated Fox Show Yet!

Created: 07/11/06
I am a long-time Simpson fan...ever since the Simpsons first came on the scene back in the late 80's I would watch the show every chance I got. But over the years the Simpsons started getting a little stale. And that's when Family Guy came in.

Family Guy is, by far, the funniest animated television series since the Simpsons were in their prime. We're weighing in alot of shows here...Ren and Stimpy, Futurama...but there's something about Family Guy that just warrants gut-busting laughs. Maybe it's Quagmire's ridiculous attempts at picking up women, Peter's wealth of ignorance, little Stewie's attempts at world domination, or just the random silliness thrown in to all of the episodes, such as appearences by the Kool Aid man, the 'Two Scoops' sun from the old Raisin Bran commercials, references to the old Incredible Hulk television series...and alot more.

Family Guy is definitely not for the kids...all of the situations are adult and sometimes are borderline risque (which got the series cancelled, unfortunately). The network censors and committees have no idea what they've done...they threw away a gold mine.

While it could never truly replace the Simpsons, Family Guy was well on its way to becoming the new dominant animated series on Fox. The Simpsons have been stale the last few years...Family Guy breathed new life into prime time animation that you just don't see anymore. It's too bad, really. In any case, don't pass up the opportunity to own every episode on DVD!!

Fans will love to have all episodes on dvd, I know i'm looking forward to it. And even if you've never seen it, then take my advice: Pick it up anyway! You will not regret it! The extra features are a little bare bones, but it doesn't matter. The show has enough laughs to keep you coming back...even watching the same episode twice won't lessen the amount of laughs you get from it. Definitely a great idea to put this classic but short lived series on DVD!

Family Guy. Funniest. Television. Show. Period.

Funniest. Television. Show. Period.

Seth McFarlane's Family Guy is the funniest show on television - and it has been for years. Its quickly developed a cult following that is stronger and larger than the Simpsons'. The Family Guy aired on Fox in 1999 immediately following the Super Bowl and received wild attention - though not positive - among the media for its raunchiness and controversial material. After Fox's cancellation in 2002, the Family Guy Season 1 was released on DVD in 2003 and has been wildly successful since. Two years later, the Family Guy DVD is still in high demand on eBay (where it can be purchased for a fraction of the $49.99 retail price) and its still in the top 100 list on Amazon.com. The Family Guy Season 1 DVD was so successful, a subsequent DVD was released and the show was re-picked up on Fox and currently airs on Sunday Nights.

The Family Guy follows the Griffins who live in Quahog, Rhode Island and appear to be a normal suburban family. The specific Griffins are each unique: The father Peter Griffin is fat, lazy, raunchy and a simpleton (think Homer Simpson). Daughter Meg Griffin is a homely, unsophisticated 15-year old. Chris Griffin is a 13-year old version of his father. Baby Stewie is a sophisticated big-thinker with plans to overtake the world - the only problem is that only his dog Brian can hear him. Brian on the other hand drinks martinis, dates women, and reeks of sarcasm.

The true humor within Family Guy is the writing. Seth McFarlane has a knack for social commentary and sarcasm - attacking anything relevant to current events, pop culture, or the likes... and he does so in on-the-border / is-it-offensive? manners. If you can make it through a single episode without laughing aloud - you must not have a funny bone in the body!

There are extras and commentaries - but below are the included episodes and the corresponding discs:

Death Has a Shadow
I Never Met the Dead Man

Family Guy

Created: 28/08/06
Family guy is genius plain and simple . Now that is my opinion but as you watch the simple animation and listen to and follow along the misguided plots and funny flashbacks and Hidden humor you will laugh . At times the show makes you feel liek a dumb blonde because you at times don't understand a little of the humor now and then , then BAM ! out of no where you just start laughing that you understood the joke.

Now to be a critique family guy is not for all ages mainly mature audiences , the reason this is , is some of the language and adult humor . Alot of times the adult humor is very hidden for younger people to understand but we must be adults and appropriate . Some of the show once in a while feel liek they were begging or reaching way out for a laugh and some of the humor once in a while is very edgy . But in an overall sense it is appropriate and genius how they work every little joke and flashback into the story line . Now some of the things I said above are a ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE factor not in every episode and does not affect the loveable characters in a whole .

Character descriptions .
Peter - the loveable father who is portrayed as a loud mouthed northern overweight man with a smart mouth yet stupid enough to say the wrong thing at the right/wrong time .

Louis - the attractive wife of peter , plagued with a distrait family and a child that wants to be her demise and somehow doesn't realize she can and should do better than peter but that's what makes it beautiful .

Chris - The baby Huey son of them peter and louis , he comes out with strange humor at times and is oversized , has most of his fathers stupidness but in an innocent way .

Megan - The daughter who is not liked by anyone is portrayed as ugly not drawn ugly and just is in her teens and expierienceing teenage drama which noone cares about .

Brian - The dog for the family , but this dog can talk and has a college education , somehow this doesn't matter to anyone a talking dog it's normal his antics with stewie and almost alcoholic habits create humor for all .

Stewie - The favorite of everyone's , he is the baby boy of louis and peter . He can talk yet that doesn't matter an infant as the grammer of a Ivy league professor and a genius of inventing death traps to kill his mother for some reason he hates but loves her the same . His smart alic comments and hostility for an infant are amusing and so loveable with the comic relief he brings by dancing in his diaper or finding out what heartbreak is .

There are so many other characters to describe but I cannot in the space elloted by ebay , they all change and interact with each other perfectly .

This show is not for everyone , mainly guided towards 18 - 30 yr olds but alot of the hidden humor is so enjoyable for all ages and can be enjoyed by anyone .

You literally have to watch the episodes more than once to truly see all the comments and skits performed because you don't realize it but you miss things then you watch it again and see something new that is what is so enjoyable by this show .

The DVD set is the perfect gift for anyone . Some do say the family guy is a rip off of the simpsons but in all actuality it's not . It plots and skits go everywhere and everything and the loveable simpsons have done everything out there so anyone can yell that it's almost a copy but it's so original you understand it is nothing like that at all .

Please Vote if this has helped you , thank you .
