Father of the Pride: The Complete Series
Created: 08/03/08
Although not cutting edge animation, this series is clever and very funny. Short-lived as a television program due to the high cost of production, the existing episodes have a typical TV sitcom feel...only instead of Archie Bunker or Homer Simpson we meet Larry the Lion and his family of felines. Larry, family and friends are the white lions working for the Las Vegas magicians, Siegfried and Roy.
Kids will be drawn to it for the Shrek-like style of art, but they won't get all the jokes. Adults will undoubtedly like the humor, but possibly turned off by the kid-friendly look.
The DVD is rated TV14 for the borderline humor. The dialogue can be a bit interpretive at times and some parents might not appreciate their children asking the inevitable questions. Some of the topics per episode might seem adult-oriented, too. For instance, the family deals with drugs (in one of the funniest episodes on the disc), gambling, racial prejudice, murder and empowerment for women.
Larry is voiced by John Goodman, with a cast including Cheryl Hines, Orlando Jones and Carl Reiner. Throughout the series we hear a range of guest voices from Kelsy Grammer and Danny Devito to Lisa Kudrow and Eddie Murphy.
I find this series a lot of fun and have viewed the DVD often. I recommend it to anyone who likes this type of entertainment.

One of my favorites :)

I adored this television show; when it first aired it quickly became one of my favorites. I took special care to never miss a show! Unfortunetly, because of the high costs of making each computer generated episode, production of the show stopped very early on. But lucky for us we have this DVD. :)
For those just finding out about the series, it's about the famous Lion and Tiger trainers, Sigfreid and Roy. But the main focus of the show is on their two White Lions and their family. That's where it gets gust-bustingly funny!(Sigfreid and Roy have thier moments too.)
I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this show. The visuals are wonderful, the comedy always makes me laugh. Simple as that. Keep in mind however that this show is NOT for children! Plenty of sexual hints and crude humor among other things. Nothing too risky though. Parents use your own judgement.
This show wont disappoint, I promise. I'm bought the series on DVD, that should tell you something. :)

Cleverly Written & Hysterically Funny Grown Up Cartoon!

It is such a pity that this series only lasted one season.
It was so clever, witty, fast paced, and hysterical.
Definitely NOT a kids cartoon. This is an "adult" cartoon
along the lines of "King of the Hill"(which I love) or
"Family Guy"(Which I Hate), only much higher quality.
The best comparison I can make is "Married with Children"
Give it a shot. You'll love it, and if not, there's always
Ebay!

Great show!

This show should not have been canceled. It is not quite as edgy as Family Guy or the Simpsons, but clever enough to be entertaining.
Another good thing about this show is that there is no ongoing story. Each episode stands on its own so you don't have to watch the episodes in order and there is no cliffhanger at the end.

A great comedy, social statement show. The episodes were funny enough to keep me watching and risque enough to see why it was canceled. John Goodman's voice was the perfect match for the lion in this show.
