Fats Domino & Friends-VHS
Created: 01/02/07
Fats Domino, Ray Charles and Jerry Lee Lewis in a 1986 nightclub concert--3 old icons just jamming and still on top of their game. The haired, hyper-voluble Paul Schaffer--yes, from Letterman--is the MC and music director. Great sidemen like Beatle guitarist Ron Wood, Domino's longtime cohorts Dave Bartholomew and saxman Herb Hardesty among that great horn ensemble, and a raucous, standing, cheering live crowd at ringside. They throw in a lot of their hits, close with a humongous 10-minute boogie jam, and for an hour just look like all concerned are having a ball. Originally an hour TV show, this is a must-see for fans of the 3 stars (who had only months before been among the first inductees of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame),or for folks who simply value the musical and cultural licks these guys represent. You'll find yourself smiling, nodding, tapping the beat with your air piano, and--if you're like me--occasionally blinking through a tear. Needs to be DVD!
