Fender Blues Junior 1x12'' 15 watt Combo

Created: 09/02/11
I have been playing for 30+ years as a hobby. I have way to many Guitars and amps. One of my first GOOD amps was/is a 1972 Fender pro reverb I bought at a pawn shop around the corner from where I worked ( I was 12 , yes I started early) for $200 ( yes it was a long time ago ). I still play the amp once in a while , but as its 75 watts its very loud for just practicing and it weights a ton.
The Fender Blues Jr Limited edition in Green that I just bought on E Bay is a perfect amp for all around playing! Its great for practicing or playing a small club . Being a Fender tube amp it has the same warm clean sound as my 72 BUT being only 15 watts I can really crank it up and let the tubes "break up" very nicely without having my neighbors calling the swat team on me .
Great sound , not as heavy as some others and you can spend allot of time and money ( as I did ) buying amps just to come back to this amp!!
I would recommend this amp for either a beginner/ intermediate to expert

For the money I don't think there's a better 1x12 combo out there. It may be a bit boxy sounding but the range of tones is just what I want. Plenty of clean headroom for that perfect Fender clean tone, and great breakup with smooth tube distortion. I love that it has a Master volume control and built in reverb. I play mainly blues and classic rock and this amp handles it perfectly. About the only thing it wont do is metal, but I don't know any Fender amp that will do that for you. It takes my pedals great, although I've noticed I have to turn down the Master Volume a bit or it buzzes horribly. When it's playin clean I can drive it with any and all of my pedals I like. I bought it because I wanted an amp that could give me the clean tones I was looking for and still break up enough for that classic distortion tone, and I have found it. If I could change anything, I would give it another channel or at least have the footpedal control the reverb as well as the "fat" switch. But for the money, it does what it's supposed to do and does it very well.

Older and better

I was looking for an older Blues Jr, preferably in Blonde or Tweed, and this one fit the bill nicely. I prefer the last model to the newer Blues Jr III, which is the current production model. I'm not going to knock the new ones, they sound great, but the "improvements" aren't all exactly to my taste. The stiffer low-end response, for example, isn't as cool (to me) as the softer, more old-school-tweed sounding bottom end of the older models. Likewise, the "sparkle" mod, which I think is a great idea, when coupled with the tightened bottom end, takes too much of the mids from the amp's voicing. So I guess, in a nutshell, I just really like the way the older ones sound.

I bought the Tweed special issue with the Jensen speaker and the whole unit was modified by John Fromel. I am not a professional musician, but I have been playing guitar for over 40 years, sometimes in a group. I play mostly blues/rock and older classic Santana, Stones, Zeppelin, Clapton, Cream, Credence, Van Halen and some newer Linkin Park type rock... I have owned and played a number of guitars, amps and effects pedels. I currently play an older Gibson Black Beauty Custom Les Paul and a newer SG Standard through a Mesa/Boogie Mark II or a Fender Twin. This little Fender Blues Junior is without a doubt the best amp I have ever used. You can go from clean sparkly tones to gritty over driven Brit and American rock just by adjusting the two volume settings for overdrive. About the only thing this amp can't provide all by itself is full on metal and you can easily get that with a pedal. I am not suing any effects with this amp except for the occasional MXR phase 100. I think the EL84 tubes might have something to do with the sound of this amp and possible the special Jensen speaker, both came stock with the amp - do your own research...I have no negatives about this amp and am currently looking for another used one to bring to work and practice during lunch and breaks!!

Fender Blues Jr. Tweed Lim. Edition does the job!

I wanted a small go to amp with classic Fender reverb and amp tones, and the Blues Junior Tweed Limited Edition with the Jensen speaker definitely has them. I think it's a little thin without the Fat switch, so I keep it engaged at all times for a thicker sound. With the volume cranked and the master low it has some nice distortion, but the more I crank the master the more I have to use my Boss OD-3 and Tim pedals. The BJ works well though with all of my pedals. I like the clean sounds better than my Peavey Classic 30, but the distortion on the Classic 30 is better, IMO.
