Movie synopsis

Originally a 1965 Jimmy Stewart vehicle, this FLIGHT gets a rough and ready updating for the new century, with the stalwart Dennis Quaid now inhabiting the title role. He's a pilot on a routine trip out to investigate some remote oil rigs in the Gobi Desert, but things go wrong and he makes a crash landing in the middle of nowhere. For him, and the men along for the ride, a slow, tortured, thirsty death seems certain, unless the plucky mechanic in the crew (Giovanni Ribisi) can design a whole new plane from the wreckage. As with the original, this is a manly adventure of rugged survival and mechanical ingenuity, only this time there's a woman on board, Kelly (Miranda Otto) who generates some romantic sparks. Some of the other survivors are played by: Tyrese Gibson, Sticky Fingaz, Bob Brown and Kirk Jones. The men and one woman have to tangle with murderous desert raiders and numerous sandstorms in addition to the frequent squabbling amongst themselves. Director John Moore gets a lot of mileage out of the desert backdrop and Ribisi is solid as the mechanic with a troubled past. It was produced by William Aldrich, whose dad Robert directed the Stewart original. Edward Burns (THE BROTHERS McMULLEN) co-wrote the new screenplay.

I really enjoyed this movie. The actors are well chosen, all play their parts great.

Dennis Quaid plays a pilot who has to pick up an oil rig team in the middle of the Gobi Desert. But things start to go wrong and he has to crash land in the desert. They hold out hope that someone will find them, but a mechanic believes he can design a new plane from the wreckage. They begin building it, but they have to be careful to ration the remaining food and water properly. They have to also deal with sandstorms and some murderous desert raiders along the way.

The cast is: Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Miranda Otto, and Giovanni Ribisi.

A definite must have.

In Mongolia, the test well of an oil field is shut-down by the company headquarter in Atlanta, and a plane piloted by Captain Frank Towns (Dennis Quaid) is sent to bring the workers back home. While flying over a storm, the plane crashes in the Mongolian desert. When they realize that they will not be rescued, they decide to build a new plane from the wreckage of the old one.

In this movie Flight of the Phoenix, a cargo plane on a routine flight is in the center of a terrible storm. With all the turbulance the plane is forced to crash in a middle of dessert. The remaining survivors eventually pull together to work on building a plane. Good drama and excitement.

Not a blockbuster, but very entertaining

Created: 06/03/08
I’m a real plane enthusiast and I enjoy watching “House” (Hugh Laurie) on TV, so this movie fulfilled two needs. It may have been a real stretch from an aerodynamic standpoint, but it was still entertaining without the usual violence and sex additives. I would recommend this movie to anyone wishing to enjoy a quiet evening at home with the family. The happy ending was a real plus for the movie.
