Movie synopsis

This classic tale of teen rebellion features a delightful combination of dance choreography and realistic, touching performances. When teenager Ren (Kevin Bacon) and his family move from big-city Chicago to a small midwestern town, he's in for a real case of culture shock. Though he tries hard to fit in, the streetwise Ren can't quite believe he's living in a place where rock music and dancing are illegal. There is one small pleasure, however: Ariel (Lori Singer), a troubled but lovely blonde--who also has a jealous boyfriend. In fact, it is Ariel's dad (John Lithgow), a Bible-thumping minister, who is responsible for keeping the town dance-free. Ren and his classmates want to do away with this ordinance--especially since the senior prom is around the corner--but only Ren has the courage to initiate a battle. Ren's pent-up frustrations cause a confrontation with Rev. Shaw Moore and the local town council as he takes on the small-town establishment struggling to abolish the outmoded ban and revitalize the spirit of the repressed townspeople. Herb Ross's fast-paced drama is filled with such hit songs as the title track and "Let's Hear It for the Boy" and is a classic of 1980s Brat Pack cinema.

Footloose...Still A Classic

Created: 25/06/06
This movie, in my book, is still one of my all time favorites. It spoke to me on several levels. When I was young, I had mover around a lot..house to house, as my mom & dad were renters. I know how it is to move to a new area, and have to start over making friends. And yes, sometimes you are just not accepted by some people. I especially loved this movie because it had dancing in it: one thing that I have never been able to master. I have often been awstruck by a good dance movie: whether it was break dancing, hip hop, dirty dancing etc. I respect the people who let it all hang out. Footloose made me feel that even I could be accepted; and even as a dancer.

Now as a father myself, I can understand and feel the pain that the preacher must have felt; in trying to protect his only daughter. I understand that as a father, no matter who you are (IE: a preacher), you will make mistakes. Footloose can teach you (if you are listening) that it is never to late to make a change, and do the "right thing".

The music that layed the background in this film is also wonderful. It made me thing about all the things I was doing when they came out. Of course, they are real toe tappers in their own right. It has been a month or so since I last saw this film, but I do believe I counted the title track being played (or some segment thereof)somewhere around 7 times from start to finish. That may have been a little over-the-top, but it was not too distracting to take anything away from the movie.

This movie shows that if people are willing to compromise, it can be a win-win situation for all concerned parties. Footloose has my vote for one of the all time classic movies: dance or otherwise.

A classic. A must see. Dare to dance. This is the story of a rebel that moves to a small, religious community where the preacher father bans dancing. He claims it's of the devil. The rebel (sexy Kevin Bacon) falls for the preachers daughter and long story short... they have a dance for the Senior prom. Great music by Kenny Loggins. Makes you want to get up and dance.

Well, I've collected over 2,500 moviex, with about 60% that I copied of TV over the last 15 years. Way back I prepared a list from Silent through the 60's with a few after. Created 16 manuals, listed as Bette Davis, Adventure, Biography, Comedy, Drama, Musical, Mystery, Silent, War, Western & Sciene Fiction, and the last - Are You Being Served-Blondie-Abbott & Costello-Keeping Up Appearnces-Chaplain. These manuals list the movies, description, Actors & Actresses and Posters (Some I found on the Internet, magazines, others I created by running the movie on my computer and picked the Title and One Image.
Created another Mnaual listing the Actors & Actress, their movies (listing numbers that I have) along with a picture of all of them, and their awards.
My last manual lists alphabetically all the movies, date, category (comedy, etc.) and number if I have them.
Today I have most but keep searching for about 200 more I want and enjoy searching Ebay and TCM.
But at age 74, I will eventually have to sell everything off so that my 3 daughters don't get stuck with it all.
