Years before Amy Winehouse garnered international attention with BACK TO BLACK, the sassy British soul singer put herself on the U.K. music map with her 2003 debut, FRANK. Nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize, the record glides along on the subtly jazzy production of Salaam Remi, which allows Winehouse's expressive voice, strongly influenced by Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington, to shine, particularly on the trip-hop-tinged "Stronger Than Me," the powerful "You Sent Me Flying," and the sultry "I Heard Love Is Blind." Although not quite as consistent or daring as her subsequent album, FRANK is an impressive first outing that should win over anyone swooning from BACK TO BLACK.

) I decided to buy this album because her Back to Black album was excellent. I wanted to hear more from Amy Winehouse, so I bought her first album, and I was definitely impressed. Some notables are "Moody's Mood for Love", "Know You Now" and "I Heard Love is Blind". The majority of this album is also great. Hopefully she comes out of her "habit" and makes a new album.

) I love this CD. The music is a mixture of the past with the present. It has soul, jazz, rhythm and groove. The music, Amy's voice and songwriting is refreshing. It definitly isn't your typical boring pop music that is out there now. It is outstanding and is something that comes once in a lifetime. NO one can come close to it's uniqueness.

) This is actually my second Amy cd. Since I live in the US Back to Black was released first even though it was Amy's second cd. Frank is a lot more jazzy that B2B. Of course a lot of her songs are about relationships but she puts a sharp twist in her storytelling. Amy will continue to be on of my favorite artist for a long time despite her drug/alchol use. Just keep making wonderful music!

) I bought the cd "Frank" because i am a Amy Winehouse fan..Smooth-soulfoul-sophisticated-provocative-jazzy all describe this vocalist..a throwback to goove music--unique sound...even a sixties vibe sometimes...A classic version of Washington"s Mister Magic was empowering..if you like these qualities i recommend "Frank" by Amy Winehouse...

BETTER THAN I THOUGHT.

Amy is featured as a younger but not sweeter version of her current self. Her lyrics havent' changed but her sound has. Her music has a hiphop-pop/jazz theme that really features her voice, which often sounds just like christina aguilera. Some of her songs have a tendancy to wander on, not mumbling, but like run-on lyrics. My favorite songs are 'stronger than me', 'f**k me pumps' which is really funny and we can all relate, and 'amy amy amy'.
