Tom is Funny, but I think he tried way to hard on this!

There is no way to out-guess what the critics were going to say about this film. Freddy Got Fingered was one of Tom Green's pet projects for a couple of years, and I'm sure that he had a blast making this film. His bizarre approach to comedy is his own brainchild and deserves some form of critical acclaim regardless. Even though this film is edited down to 87 minutes and rated R, it also has Deleted Scenes, Tom (the director) audio overlay commentary, and a P.G. Version on the DVD for those who wish to tone it down a bit.
Gord's girlfriend and wife to be Drew Barrymore even takes out the time to have a small role in his film. Gord's girlfiend Betty (Marisa Coughlan) is wheelchair bound and is also a bound and determined person which says something about overcoming reality, although the film is sometime misunderstood, it should be noted that some cynical critics miss the intent to this film which is designed to totally MOCK "GROSS OUT" COMEDY. Many emotional and romantic moments in this film are there to poke fun at overtly dull and repetitive sugar coated never ending surplus of never yielding love dreary romance movies.
Along the way to success, this is a no B.S. approach to life.
Almost immediately, words and thoughts come to mind, but I'd like to try and put all the negative, nasty, tasteless comments that come to mind on the back-burner for a moment and say this. Yes, but, was it funny, clever, and intelligent as Tom Green says? Yes of course. Who else in the world could possibly be so extremely, silly, nasty, gross, irreverent, appalling, tasteless, offensive, awful in a film and come out looking like a genius? Tom Green.
A sense of irony and thoughtless poetic justice seem to permeate this film. In Tom's own words, he thanks of his film as a "Nice story About A Dream". The tempo of the film lends itself to a playful romp with a thug's dream of pushing your way through life screaming and hating. The character Gordy seems autistic and detached, much like someone you might find in a mental ward. This side of his character that seems to escape realism since he takes many comments literally such as "Get inside the animals" and when Gordy's girlfriend tells him to relax, take things slow, play music, eat some food, and draw. Gordy stupidly takes her literally and finds a way to do all those things together at the same time. Although there are many ridiculous and idiotic things that Tom tries to squeeze into this movie, the majority of his jokes are really inventive and funny. We have to remember where he is coming from here. A great deal of Ad Lib is encompassed in segments within this film. Rip Torn plays his father who screams many memorable profanities at Gordy including "You Imbecile"
Things Not to miss in this film: The Cheese Helmet, The Backwards Man, The Song "Daddy, would you like some sausage?", Doctor Gord, The Cartoon Segments "Zebras in America".
Tom tells of the many fond memories he had growing up in Ottawa, BC and got many of his ideas for his screenplay from his childhood friends and jokes he played upon others as well as his parents.
Tom had a scene segment, much like Martin Sheen in "Apocalypse Now" where Sheen agonizes, goes bananas, and smashes a mirror. Tom cut this segment down to a few seconds, since he couldn't get the song rights from The Doors because they had wanted 400,000.
Tom did many of his own stunts, but the real crash test dummy was the one that got mowed down by the 18-wheeler.

Tom Greens' 1st and last best effort. Wicked funny. It is a classic
in its own right. Right up there with Happy Gilmore and Christmas
vacation ( nat'l lampoons ) Even the most stiff shirt has to laugh
at some of the gags. It's a collection MUST.

If you need 2 hours of non-stop laughing.. i'd go for this movie. This guy is the definition of insane. However, i find the immaturities the best.. and many people may just find it a tad annoying/overwhelming.
