Product description

Synopsis
A novel celebrating the joys of female friendship, FRIDAY NIGHT KNITTING CLUB is set in a tiny knitting shop in New York City. Georgia Walker, the shop's proprietor, has formed a tight little community with an eclectic collective of fellow knitters. When the father of Georgia's teen daughter wants back into her life, Georgia must lean on her knitting club for moral support. Jacobs gives a unique backstory to each knitter, and a bit of attention to each woman's personal woes, making for a layered story-line reminiscent of HOW TO MAKE AN AMERICAN QUILT.

Friday Night Knitting

Created: 19/09/10
The Friday Night Knitting Club is a story about several New York women, and in some cases their "man problems", whose paths intersect around a knitting shop and the club that the regulars keep there on Friday nights. The group has a believability about it.
The writing style is pretty simplistic and the story, with the exception of the key event itself, is predictable. But, I enjoyed it and I will read the next installment, "Knit Two".

I am an avid knitter and have read lots of knitting fiction. This is by far one of the worst books I have read although I did finish it. Most knitters I know, including those on ravelry.com really did not like the book. The characters were not engaging (I didn't cry when one of the main characters died; she was annoying mostly) and I didn't feel any connection to this group of women. I have read many more books along this line with either knitting or book clubs as the central theme that were better written and more engaging. Fortunately, I borrowed this from the library; working at a bookstore, I have warned several customers away from this book. Heard there was a ghost writer and a lawsuit (didn't change names of characters) through the rumor mill. Incredible!

Friday Night Knitting Club

This book was very entertaining. The book is fiction but it had interesting twists and turns. The ending was even more of a surprise. It is a god bok to curl up with and read. It's interesting to see the dinamics betwen strangers that become friends and how their lives become intertwined. If you do not knit after you read this you will want to start knitting if you don't already. I bought the book because my book club discusion group selected this book. I was glad because it was good, light reading. Enjoy!

Book club reading

This was a choice of our book club in the neighorhood. We all enjoyed it as there were parallels with our own group. Characters were developed very well and all were interesting and unique.

Not just a book for knitters!

Created: 15/08/07
This book is not like so many out there with a knitting based overtone in that the story is paramount. Many of the 'knit titles' could drop in scrapbooking, parasailing, motorcross... whatever is the hottest trend just to sell books. This author realizes that while knitting may hook (sorry about that, I couldn't resist) readers, they won't comeback for future titles if her characters and plot aren't stronger than her craft association. This book delivers both.
