Fringe is to X-Files as Idaho is to Potatos

Although I watch a lot of sci-fi and fantasy shows, very few capture my imagination enough that it is a MUST SEE show. I can count on one hand (and not using all the fingers) how many shows have drawn me in to such an extent in my 20 plus years as an adult watching t.v.
The X-Files was such a show for me (well, up until the last two seasons). Every Friday I would sit glued to the television, ignoring all signs of outside life from the phone ringing to someone knocking on the door (seriously--did they think I would answer???). =) Mulder and Scully would banter intelligently and some strange, wierd, and (okay, let's face it) many times gross image would draw me further into the plotline. Not since The X-Files went off the air have I been drawn into a show to this extent...not until Fringe, that is...
From the beginning, Fringe has offered it's viewers strange and wonderful story lines with characters that are brilliant, both in writing and in the actors that play them. Olivia Dunham is emotionally strong, but you see in her character there is more than meets the eye; a background story that unravels as the seasons progress. Peter Bishop is a highly intelligent individual that had forged a life for himself not always doing things "above board" but was drawn into this odd world by Olivia and his very odd father... Walter Bishop, genius; perhaps mad genius more appropriate. With odd remarks out of the blue, his timing is perfect and he adds lightness to an otherwise intense show. Each of these characters have a story and with other characters--Astrid, Agent Broyles, Nina Sharp; well, you get a world the Cigarette Smoking Man would have been perfectly comfortable in.
Season 1 was character developement as we saw Olivia and Peter meeting for the first time, Olivia learning about the Fringe division, etc. Now building on that season 2 focuses more on Peter--his story (and boy does he have one thanks to his father, Walter). With twists and turns along the way it's worth at least one watch (and for me, 3 or 4). =)
Although I've heard is said you can watch one episode as a "stand alone plotline" I really think that is far from true. Fringe, as The X-Files did, has a continuing story building as the years progress. Not necessarily aliens, at least not at this point, but an awesome "what if" that gets the viewers imagination going. If you haven't watched Season 1, I highly recommend you do before watching any of the second season.
Kick back and enjoy an alternate reality given to us by the Fringe writers. =)

Fringe season 2

I think this is one of the best shows on TV. it has a very good story line but can be confusing if you miss parts of episodes or full episodes. I have watched from season 1 and if you don't start from the start of season 1 you can get overwhelmed by the complexity of the story. If you love science fiction then you should love fringe as there is some stuff on there that is really crazy. The cast of characters is great with Peter and Olivia being the main characters and Walter the comic relief. overall it is a great show and worth watching.

Fringe is an American science fiction television series created by J. J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The series follows a Federal Bureau of Investigation "Fringe Division" team based in Boston, Massachusetts under the supervision of Homeland Security. The team uses unorthodox "fringe" science and FBI investigative techniques to investigate a series of unexplained, often ghastly occurrences, which are related to mysteries surrounding a parallel universe. The show has been described as a hybrid of The X-Files, Altered States, The Twilight Zone and Dark Angel.

I know that I am a Sci-Fi addict. This show is a must see for me. I wait for every new episode to be released. There are many shows and movies I only watch once, but this is a watch again type of show. At times it is 'far-out', but it is Science Fiction. Having my own copy so I can review what I might not have seen the first time is a big plus.
