Brown.THE FUTURE EMBRACE may theoretically be Billy Corgan's debut solo project, but many would contend the lion's share of Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan material was essentially Corgan (as a solo artist) existing within a band unit. Then again, neither of the aforementioned bands found the Chicago native so thoroughly toning down aggressive six-string flights of fancy in favor of shoegazer-like sentiments reminiscent of idols Joy Division and Echo and the Bunnymen. But that was exactly Corgan's intent in enlisting Nitzer Ebb's Bon Harris into the production mix of EMBRACE and emerging with songs steeped in synth-soaked soundscapes.Always prone to confessional songwriting, the Pumpkins' founding member is no less in therapy mode throughout these dozen songs. The subtle, New Order-like dance vibe of "A100" is dressed in pleas for love, while the clarion grandiosity of "Mina Loy (M.O.H.)" stews in paranoia stoked by modern-day terrorism. Most surprising is how effectively Corgan takes the Bee Gees' major-key smash "To Love Somebody" and transforms it into a minor key goth dirge buttressed by synth washes and a guest vocal by none other than Cure leader Robert Smith.

3 stars out of 5 - [T]his titan of modern rock has decided to bare his soul, his foibles, his rather extreme religiosity, and his rocky search for love and meaning...

Billy Corgan, revisioned.

Adore. This single word provokes visions of Electronica and loud ambiance in the minds of Pumpkins fans. Then, Machina was released, returning to a more rock oriented sound of Mellencollie. Then, Zwan, under the Smashing Pumpkins name wold have been heralded as the return to form. However, Billy has decided to return to the Adore era, however, not as gracefully. This loud, hookless, sometimes incoherent ensemble is a drastic change from the world of Billy Corgan we are so used to. However, in all of its muddy synth distortion, Billy delivers on an emotional level. Leaving behind the Smashing Bumpkins name, this is Billy exposed. Hence the port wine stain and crooked teeth featured predominately in the album booklet. This is bare bones Billy, and in some reality, it works.

nice change of pace

Created: 14/08/08
I bought this knowing ahead of time not to expect siamese dream all over again. Billy described in interviews this was an effort to to explore different soundscapes and songwriting techniques. I like the laid back feel and atmosphere of this album and it definately adds new flavor to the Billy Corgan repetoire we all know

I guess I should add I was a bid 'Adore' fan too. I suppose I like the idea of a singular artist's compositions rather than a "band" effort

Billy in great shape!

Created: 11/03/07
After the BIG band Smashing Pumpkins and after Zwan now Billy Corgan decided to have an album on his own and he did it right! This album is full of great sounds, this songs are just so good....

I think that every fan of SP, Zwan and/or Billy should have this album.

Let's see how works now that SP are going to re-unite.... perhaps after an album on his own, Billy started to write songs in a different way..

Very Good Album!

never underestimate

Created: 26/01/10
it is an underestimated album. i would recommend it only to those fans who truly (or closely) understand the madness of Billy Corgan, and to that effect all others may disregard the album. it is NOT smashing pumpkins (although i love them dearly) but that is why this is a solo album under his very own name. therefore, buy it or don't, but dont blame the musicmakers, you can always choose listen or not.

I <3 this album so much...

Created: 16/07/07
I bought this album because I love the Pumpkins, and my collection couldn't be complete w/o it. I was nervous buying it because of some magazine reviews which in the end, I feel were very misleading. It's different from SP's music in alot ways, except for maybe 'Adore', just because both are tweeked w/ the 80's elements, and I myself find that very appealing because I love the 80's and Robert Smith anyway! Keep up the good work Billy and don't forget to shred once awhile! Love, SP
