Timberlakes's sophomore effort, FUTURESEX/LOVESOUNDS, should make both camps rethink that stance. While the album certainly sets out to entertain, it's also full of ambitious, well-constructed grooves that prove the superstar is serious about getting down and dirty. The album steps up the Michael Jackson-influenced sound of JUSTIFIED by delving deeper into club music, hip-hop, and funk, creating a bumping, writhing soundtrack for a set of songs unabashedly about sex.Timberlake spared no expense recruiting some of the best producers on the scene. Beatmaker extraordinaire Timbaland is a primary collaborator, and his experimental stutter-funk landscapes make for the album's best moments (the title track, for example, or the spare, driving lead-off single "Sexyback"). Early Prince is a major touchstone for much of the disc, but Timberlake also draws on rolling, Dirty South jams ("Chop Me Up") and smooth, urban-contemporary loverman R&B ("My Love"). Its obsession with the bedroom notwithstanding, FUTURESEX/LOVESOUNDS shows Timberlake moving toward an exciting musical maturity.

Editorial Reviews
3 stars out of 5 -- [The titles] leave no doubt as to the chief Timberlake brand value, and the louche synth funk and electro-flavoured R&B therein make a pretty seductive back-up argument.
Mojo

He's still got a lithe, lovely vocal instrument and a falsetto that evokes El DeBarge.

Superior tracks like 'LoveStoned' and 'What Comes Around,' suggest a happy middle path, where Timberlake can equally embrace Timbaland's canny beats and his own vocal helium.

variety is the spice of life!

Created: 18/10/06
I bought this album, anticipating a similar direction to Justified, which is an album I really liked. I was quite dissapointed with the result though, as each song sounds similar to the last. There are two stand out tracks, 'My Love' and the first single 'Sexy Back', which only stands out because it's been around for a while! Other than that, it's a pretty bland album.

Producers, The Neptunes are absent this time round and it seems to be a joint venture between Timbaland and Timberlake, which is no bad thing. Timbaland does a decent job as producer and Justin's vocals suit the album and subjects, it's just that it sounds the same all the way through! Just a bit more variety would have made this a far better album.

It is well put together, performance and production wise, it just needs more!

Oh, and for an album which seems to have two names, there aren't enough songs!

EDIT:

Ok, so I've had a few more listens to the album after being told it was better than I had said it was, and I agree, it isn't that bad!

It's still not as good as it could (or maybe should) have been, but it has it's good points. It has more than the two stand-out tracks I pointed out, as almost all of the others have grown on me a bit!

This an album aimed at his fanbase, who will really like it. If you pick up this album, don't compare it to Justified and give it a few listens and i think you will find that you like it!

Wore this CD OUT!

Created: 23/04/09
First off I am not a huge fan of JT and bought the CD last year when it first came out... didn't even like "Sexyback" truth be told (due to the radio stations playing it so much) and I can't even recall what made me purchase it in the first place LOL

That being said I must say that when I got it I played it OUT!! I was so surprised at how many jams were on the CD. Listened to it day and night, at work, at home while cooking, gardening, reading told everyone I spoke with about it since I was like BLOWN away. Had several favorites from the "GET" and man I just couldn't wait for the radio stations to catch up with the ENTIRE CD because they were still playing "Sexyback" and as time went by and I would hear more singles released and played on the radio my smile was broad and my ears delighted that some of my favorites made it to the radio waves. Timberland and JT did a AWESOME job on this CD with mixing up slow jams (that will move you to close your eyes and nod your head) and dance music that will make you run out to the dancefloor at a club. With the exception of a few songs this CD is solid and I have this thing that if I like if out of a 12 songlist CD I like over 8 of them that is pretty dang good! For the record my faves are:

1. Until the end of Time
2. Lovestoned
3. My Love
4. Future Sex/Love Sounds
5. Losing My Way
6. All Over Again
7. Summer Love
8. What Goes Around (the remix version)
9. Sexyback

FutureSex/LoveSound

Simply amazing.. The sounds from Justin's new album can be compared to the likes of Prince, Michael Jackson, and I'd even throw in a little James Brown.. Its definately beating the stereotype of a sophomore album. With most production done by Timbaland the beats are tight and easy to listen to. There is no need to preview the album first, you'll like it.

From begininng to end you'll hear funky smooth grooves with a pop/bounce feel.

Justin is better than ever

Actually I don't really want to like Justin, but I have to!

He is an excellent artist and singer and have definitely chosen
to work with the right people because this album is amazing!

It feels new and modern and I feel happy when I listen to his music.

I think he's still something between a kid
and a man, so in a couple of years... Oh my!

There are some of the best songs EVER on this album...

My love, Sexy back, What Goes Around Comes
Around, Love Stoned, Summer Love...

Future Sex / Love Sounds

I've always been a fan of Justin Timberlake. I love the transition he made from being a pop boy-band singer to a R&B style. He truly can make any kind of music sound good, and this cd is no exception. This cd will definitely keep you dancing throughout, great beats and vocals.

So if you're a fan of JT I suggest you should try this out, you're bound to find a song you'd love.
