    Movie synopsis

This T.V. series began in 1983 and continued until 1995, and focused on a special forces military team that was pitted against a terrorist group known as Cobra in a fight to save the world. Cobra is a deadly force led by the evil Serpentor, who is aided by the dark genius of Dr. Mindbender. Together they are able to develop the technology to steal youth and beauty in "The Glamour Girls," while in Cobrathon they have created a computer virus that will destroy the computer systems of the Scotland Yard, the FBI, and other law-enforcing entities. In "Last Hour to Doomsday," Cobra menaces the entirety of the east coast with a machine known as the vortex cone, which will bury the land under huge waves. Luckily, the Joes are always able to come to the rescue in the nick of time. Other episodes include "Computer Complications," "Sink the Montana," "Once Upon a Joe," and "The Rotten Egg," and each episode ends with a thought-provoking PSA.

    15 episodes of '80's G.I. Joe fun!

    Created: 09/12/06
***Sadly, the G.I. Joe DVD series went out of production just ONE set away from being complete! Many great episodes from the second season are not in this set.*** G.I. Joe is a cartoon originally made to help market Hasbro's action figure toyline. However, it's amazing to see the amount of care writers placed in the plots and dialogue, especially when they didn't have to. It's really top quality (most of the time) despite some animation bloopers. Unlike many cartoons today, this one has some basis in reality (and is still relevant 20 years later!).
Pros: The five part "Arise Serpentor Arise!" could be played as one long movie if you chose. The episode "Sink the Montana" featured a US admiral being corrupted (very dramatic)! The episode "Cobrathon" featured a computer virus and the internet way back in 1986!!!
Cons: There was an increase in the physical violence shown due to real-life wrestler Sgt. Slaughter joining the team. He's a bit loud in the first 5 episodes. Again, the special features are weak with just two interviews (a voice actor and a producer).
Overall: Not only an excellent trip down memory lane to '80's cartoons but you may just see something that the keen writers threw in that you understand now as an adult! GREAT FOR KIDS AND ADULTS with PG cartoon violence.

good, the bad and the ugly

I was really excited to see season two part one, so I bought it. I felt that Sgt. Slaughter was somewhat annoying as he is really loud and obnoxious. The other thing that is somewhat bothersome is the fact that Duke is no longer the Joes Leader, General Hawk has taken over command and if you are used to the first season it's a change for the worse. On the other hand there are a lot of new joes and cobras as well as many exciting episodes. I found that the animation was more exciting and intense. On the down side, Storm Shadow is no where to be found on this season. Overall its a great DVD set to own and I do recommend it to all GI Joe fans.
