Galactica 1980: The Complete Series (DVD, 2007, 2-Disc Set)

Kent McCord, Barry Van Dyke|Theatrical release: 1980 | Rating: Not Rated

Movie synopsis

After its initial cancellation, fan outcry led to BATTLESTAR GALACTICA being restored to TV screens--albeit in revamped form. Set 30 years after the original series, GALACTICA 1980 finds the star cruiser of the title finally reaching the glimmering oasis of Earth. Unfortunately, they've also led their dreaded enemies, the robotic Cyclons, to the planet. In order to prepare 1980s-era earthlings for intergalactic battle and save the human race from destruction, Captain Troy (Kent McCord) and Lieutenant Dillon (Barry Van Dyke) are sent down to meet with the planet's scientists and jump-start their primitive technology. Along the way, they get in some interesting culture clashes with bikers, police, and an intrepid TV anchor (Robyn Douglass). Though the premise is altered, the series is still full of the laser battles and deep-space sequences that made the original so popular with legions of fans. This collection presents all 10 episode of the series, completing the classic sci-fi saga.

Classic BSG Last Season a reminder to studioosfans to know when to quit

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

This is the Last Season of the Original Battle Star Galactica Series with the Season Before it last Episode side plot being them recieving the Apollo Moon landing TV broadcast at one of their abandoned Observation decks Starbuck and Apollo happened to be in
The one I recieved had the unusual case format of Disk 2 being partially under disk one in a slimcase design which is a little inconvienent if I want the second disk
The Promos includde the newer battlestar galactica promos which was a suprise as I didn't know it was a "kosher" reboot till then...still wont watch it..Im a hard Core,no alternative Original BSG fan..lol
The first 4 eppisodes are actually the last Season befiore it was pulled for a lack popularity..bascally since the main plot was accomplished...they made it to Earth and the Storylines of trying to chase a rogue counsel member through time trying to bring Earth up to Speed with Colonial Tech was a little lame
the Last 6 eppisodes is a 2nd attempt by "fan demand" to save the show but "super human" colonial Children and solvig local Bully problems was even more Lame with a apperance by Wolfman Jack taking the Cake in Post "Jumping the Shark" through Flaming hoops, backward, and blind folded while jugging and tap dancing on a unicorn
Bur dont miss the "Return of Starbuck" (Last eppisode before Series permanently pulled) as dispite the "Cheese" of the "Astral Hippie girl" it was the clossest thing to the before BSG reached s
All in all it is something a classic BSG fan should have..if just not a reminder of knowing when to end a series before it begins to run a tagent and suck(Like Xena did in last "rebboted" season,Charmed after 4th Season, and Gilligan Island did in their Fantasy Island rip-off attempt"Castaway Island")

The best thing that came from the Carter Years!

When I watch the BSG 1980 episodes, the thing that strikes me most is that when you hired Lorne Greene or Robert Reed to act in a TV series you got your money's worth! Campy for the dialogue and the ways Universal went really cheap on the production, this series still manages to sell the story in a wholesome way that is rarely experienced in modern television. I'm glad it's in my collection!

A blast into the past

Created: 05/07/08
I did not remember all the details as a child in this series but I knew I loved Battlestar Galactica. Watching this series put a smile on my face and I had a great time strolling down memory lane.

There are a couple of corny parts like when they introduce that the Capricians are stronger because our gravity on Earth is much weaker than theirs was. YA Right!!!! They were in outerspace for a couple of generations!!!

But remembering Dr Z, and going back in time to save the germans from getting advanced technology, and Jamie the news reporter woman was a lot of fun.
