The Game: Penetrating The Secret Society Of Pickup Artists by Neil Strauss (2005, Paperback)

Author: Neil Strauss | Publisher: It Books | Language: English

Product description

Synopsis
In this pickup artist's memoir, Neil Strauss tells how he went from average guy (loser) to master seducer. Neil's Harvard was a secret society of seducers, a subculture of like-minded men who share the secrets of getting the best-rated women. Using the name "Style," Strauss actually lived among them in a Los Angeles safe house, and he tells of his two-year journey that included encounters with some of the rich and famous, such as Tom Cruise, Paris Hilton, and Courtney Love. He masters the rules of the Game, but the lifestyle that he and his friends lead takes them to some dangerous places. Strauss's textbook offers theory and practice in the seduction arts, and his prose style is engaging and readable. In the end, he gets what he wants and what he needs--though not what he expected. Readers of THE GAME will come away with more than just pickup lines.

Publisher's Note

Hidden somewhere, in nearly every major city in the world, is an underground seduction lair. And in these lairs, men trade the most devastatingly effective techniques ever invented to charm women. This is not fiction. These men really exist. They live together in houses known as Projects. And Neil Strauss, the bestselling author, spent two years living among them, using the pseudonym Style to protect his real-life identity. The result is one of the most explosive and controversial books of the year -- guaranteed to change the lives of men and transform the way women understand the opposite sex forever.

On his journey from AFC (average frustrated chump) to PUA (pick-up artist) to PUG (pick-up guru), Strauss not only shares scores of original seduction techniques but also has unforgettable encounters with the likes of Tom Cruise, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Heidi Fleiss, and Courtney Love. And then things really start to get strange -- and passions lead to betrayals lead to violence. The Game is the story of one man's transformation from frog to prince -- to prisoner in the most unforgettable book of the year.

Industry Reviews
"[Strauss's] writing is often hilarious and vivid....The world described in THE GAME is both fascinating and horrifying. It's a rubberneck experience, like passing a wreck on the highway."

Great Story

Created: 10/02/06
If you are reading this book because you are having trouble with metting women, then I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I am sure you will be able to identify with one of the potential seducers. The bad news is that if you are looking for a step by step guide of what to do then email me and I can recommend two books that can.

The reason I gave this book a five rating is because the writer's story is so FASCINATING. You can feel and marvel his transformation from geek to stud. More bad news is that he put in a lot of work. The good news is one can see it is possible to overcome your fears with women. These guys are so good that they actually picked up women who did not even speak the same language!!! MUCH LOVE!!!

The one tidbit that I have to share from the book is this. The author met a woman when he first started seducing. He goes home to the internet and finds she is the reigning PLAYMATE of the year. Later in the book, he gets the phone number of a MAJOR celebrity and said that he had the confidence to call back the Playmate, but not the celebrity who I GUARANTEE you will recognize her name!

I was enthralled about the real life characters and found myself wanting to know what would happen with the group. If you are above ten years old I am reasonably sure how you have seen friends break up over what seemed to be the petty of reasons. (Real and Imagined)

Thanks

The Game by Neil Strauss

This book was useless and offers no real information. The author is self promoting and doesn't ever offer any studied or scientific information. He enjoys talking about himself, his excapades and his antics. I wouldn't call it a self help book by any means. You do have to hand it to the author though, he is making a lot of money by publishing his embelished and likely dreamed up life. This book would be fun for a middle school teenager who fansies imagining himself in the life described in these books. Save your money this is a fictional read for a juvenile audience. Caution your teens, he does spend an exhorbatant amount of time trying to persuade his readers to follow him on his websight and other venues. This book is really a scam of sorts to enlist the reader to continue spending money on his merchandise. Pretty good marketing ploy with zero substance. ALL OF HIS BOOKS ARE THE SAME!! This could be the review for any one of them.

Change your life for the better

Created: 02/04/08
Once I started reading this book I could not put it down. I just got out of a 5 year relationship and needed something to get me back into my game. After reading this book I immediately noticed a change in the way I carried myself and the way I held conversations with women. In no way do the stories told in this book turn you into a jerk or a prick to women. It simply allows the reader to build confidence in himself so that he can get past the anxiety of approaching and talking to women. The basic premise is that if you show a girl that you are confident, stable, and can build value in her life, that she will think more of you if you just walk up to her and buy her a drink. If you are a SHY or INTROVERTED person or if you just would like to build your sense of confidence and self worth this book is for you. I recommend for EVERY guy and most open minded women. Neil Strauss is a master at THE GAME.

Opening up the world of pick up artists

Created: 01/02/08
I actually heard about this book from female friends and wanted to read the buzz. I was thoroughly hooked in by the story and explanations of some of the tactics and thoeries behind picking up women. These are real life accounts of real people, places, and even celebrities. Though this book only provides only a glimpse of the exact methodology and so a guy will still need to read or acquire the material needed to become a master pick up artist, one can see the lengths and determination needed to become one. All of these methods do work or get the intended effect on women as reluctantly agreed by my female colleagues. A must read for those who want to see the psychology behind the "game" between men and women.

good book

Created: 08/01/09
I thought this book was very well written, and honest. It tells a very real story of a man who changes his life. He makes many mistakes along the way, but i think you can probably learn from many of these mistakes. Not a how to book though it does contain a lot of information on how his way of interacting with the opposite sex changes and improves. After reading this i am an instant Neil strauss fan, and have begun reading his later book, "Rules of the Game" which is a how to book, or more like a program designed to develope game. so far so good on this one too, but don't just expect to read it, you have to do field missions, and it definately takes you outside your comfort zone, which i believe is exactly what is needed. Good book!
