Fantastic Single Player, but the Multiplayer is lacking
Created: 12/09/09
If you have a computer that can handle this game, it is a beautiful and very intense game. I own a ATI 4850 and can get 60 fps most of the time (the game is capped around there) @ 1680x1050 resolutuion, all high settings, no AA. So if you cannot handle this game with your current rig, I advise against buying it as the fluidity of the game will be greatly diminished.
The single player campaign is one of the most action-packed, intense games I have ever played, and will likely keep me coming back to the title. I have completed the single-player campaign over 3 times already and it has yet to get old. Takes 7 to 15 hours to complete, depending on skill and difficulty. However, the multiplayer has many flaws and very few hosts. Like the 360 counterpart, matches are hosted by the players rather than dedicated servers. With that in mind, there are few servers to choose from, and worse yet, the lag on some of these servers are unbearable and will leave you furious at times. Also, no one plays co-op. I've tried hosting a co-op game, but no one joined for 3 hrs. So there it is. The single player is the shining gem and is worth it though.

This Game is one of the best PC games, assuming of course your machine can handle it. Nothing but PROs from my end.
*Awesome Graphics with a semi outdated card
*Great Storyline
*Enemy AI is unpredictable
*Rag-doll effects are life-like and amusing!
*Plenty of Blood and Gore
My only Con>
The Damn thing took forever to install and run on account of the vista operating system. it seems its required to download the latest patch to even execute the game. but then again 12 Gigs and decompress take a long time.
Many thanks for the Great Game.

Gears of War for PC - an engineering wonder!
Created: 10/05/09
Referencing the word "wonder" in the review title, I was really referring to the fact that I was starting to wonder if I would ever get to play the game. This was probably the worst piece of software that I ever had to deal with regarding installation and having to search forums to find out what file to download to even get the game running in the first place. The game itself is pretty good, minus a couple of places where your character gets stuck, resulting in you having to go back to the last checkpoint. One last complaint before I move on to the positives --- I hate the fact that there is only 1 save slot for the entire game. I have played some games with my son playing in parallel, and using the normal multiple save slots to save progress for both of us. This is not possible with this game -- unless I assume that each person has to log onto their own Windows Live account. What a pain!
On the good side, gameplay itself is awesome. The movement and attacks are slightly different from the norm -- a nice change of pace. There are multiple modes of play, from the normal fighting on foot, to maneuvers using vehicles. The gameplay is challenging, as are the bosses. There are a variety of ways to finish off the bosses, with some smarts needed to finish the job. Graphics are decent, though a little color could have been added to change things up throughout the game.
Overall, a game well worth buying, though do some research first to see the file to download off their website so that you don't have to wait 3 hours to start playing the game once you bring it home like I did.

Exceeded All My Expectations!

The PC version trumps the Xbox 360 version. If you have a computer capable of squeezing out this games graphics, then get the PC version. The graphics are so much better and the game is just as fun as the Xbox 360 version, it also has 5 extra chapters and a really amazing boss you get to fight. Overall, just like the 360 version, this game gets a 5 out of 5 in my book. Best game I have ever played!
Playability: 5 out of 5
Graphics: 5 out of 5
Story: 5 out of 5
Characters: 5 out of 5
Audio: 5 out of 5
Controls: 4.9 out of 5
I only gave the PC version a 4.9 out of 5 for controls because I am more of a console player. But those who are dedicated PC gamers will adapt very fast to the controls! However, I did like the PC version's ability to attack moving targets. Mouse movement is a lot easier than the 360's joystick movement.
The 5 extra chapters and the graphic upgrade is totally worth the extra $50. It will be just as fun going through the PC version as it was going through the Xbox version.

GOW PC (need a patch to start the game up properly).
Created: 08/09/09
I used to have GOW for xbox 360, but sold it because I wanted to buy GOW 2. I kinda wanted to buy GOW PC for my custom PC, but couldn't find in any retail stores so I found this item on eBAY and bought it. I had fun again to play it on CO-OP campaign with my friend and also on multiplayer matches as well. Overall, it is very good game and I recommend this for any FPS/3rdPS gamers!
