Exellent for 80$
Created: 10/01/11
I’m satisfied with my new 7’’ laptop. All is as advertised. RAM is even 256 MB (128MB advertised). Performance is best for 80$ notebook
I have graphic workstation desktops in my office and home. I have 17 “ laptop to work weekends in my cottage, but it’s expensive, heavy and big. I need something to read my mail and PDF documents, while I am dining or in the beach.
First I bought smart phone ( Gigabit Gsmart MW700 – 560MHz, 256MB, WiFi, 8 GB Micro SD ,Windows CE). It can do what I wont, but to read PDF documents on 3” screen is very hard work.
Then I bought 7” tablet ( 560MHz, 256MB Ram, WiFi, Google Android 1.6, no name from Hong Kong for 200$). It is capable to do all I want and much more (as You Tube videos). But I’m professional who can type with 10 fingers and touching screen with 1 finger on imaginable keyboard is something odd to me. I start to seek keyboard to connect to my tablet. I found such -60$ , but before that I see that 7" Mini Netbook +WiFi and Windows for 80$. I gave tablet to my wife, she hate computers (because all my time is with computers) and can’t work with real one , but love that tablet.
Generic 7" Mini Netbook +WiFi and Windows is perfect for me. It’s small and light. In my bag, full of others thing, screen is protected ( 7” tablet is not). In the beach screen and keyboard is not protected from send, but if there is any real damages, I’ll bye another one for 80$. Internal 2GB flash is very small and I bought 8GB SD card and it’s enough. It has 3 USB ports and I can connect external keyboard (keyboard is small and my 10 fingers typing is slow), mouse and USB stick, if 8GB is not enough for my Pdf Documents, MP3 music, photos…. It has normal LAN socket and if in the room is LAN net , I connect it with cable, WiFi is slower. WiFi is stable if signal is strong and you can connect to the router behind 2 concrete walls most, but it is valid for all WiFi equipment. WiFi standards are 802.11b, g, n.
Laptop connects without any problems with routers 802.11b (4,5Mbp/s tip and 11Mbp/s max) and 802.11g (19Mbp/s tip and 54Mbp/s max) range 30 meters. Router 802.11n can connect with that laptop but the speed can be 54Mbp/s most.
Processor speed is low – 266 MHz for smooth You Tube videos , but I know that previously ( min 450MHz are needed). I’m surprised, that it can play them at all, with slightly stops from time to time.
Windows CE is limited version of Windows, with special versions of software for it and installing methods are different. It cannot run software for Windows XP.
For 80$ and laptop is perfect. Lack of hard disk with running parts makes it more reliable. If you want to run Windows XP software, there is 300$ 1000Mhz / 512MB/4GB laptop same size. But my advise is to bye 600$ laptop and 10” screen. If you are gamer spend much more.
Sorry for my bad English. I can understand, but my writing is bad.

Very disappointing for a PC

Since only two people read my lengthy comments I will say my experience with a HP mini was not good, I spent too much of my time getting it to work properly on the Internet and I paid way too much ($550 after Best Buy's Geek Quad upgraded it). In the low priced PC category a new iPhone, iPod Touch or even a iPad 2 would be preferable, it surfs the web and does all the social networking you might need, you can even purchase things with it on-line. Beside notetaking, the iPad 2 has applications to create documents and publish them on-line. For a full size laptop I use an Apple Intel duo-core MacBook and have for the past 4 years without upgrading it in any way, before that it was an iBook G4 and a Titanium PowerBook G4, new MacBooks start at under $1,000 and you lose no features a full sized Windows based desktop or laptop can offer.
All my computer related activities are done on my MacBook, that includes all web surfing, research, document creation, accounting and of course my love, creating graphics and editing digital photographs and scanned artwork. One digitizing program I use is not yet written for the Mac platform so usuing Boot Camp I installed Windows XP and ran it for a couple of years. It worked fine, I had no issues, but I had the opprotunity to purchase a 17-inch Toshiba with a Intel Celeron processor for under $400 a couple of years ago and run this one program on it. It is a pain for me to deal with Windows Vista, it is not at all as friendly to me as OS X. And I use it at the table, it is so heavy and clumsy I don't carry it from room to room or on the road as I do my MacBook and iPod Touch.
That's all folks, but in summary this is how I feel. If you insist on making your life more complicated spend the few bucks, get a PC, but if you value your time as much as I do, be productive, make your life a whole lot easier and use a Mac. The plain thruth is Macs have always been easier on the nevers and today they are a whole lot less complicated using Intel processors (all the good stuff that goes with it), totally compatible with Windows software and files through well written applications and still the best at graphics and audio, movie and digital editing and graphics creation, plus you can crank out numbers in spreadsheets and make eye-popping presentations.

A great buy

I was buy a mini netbook to use in trips and meetings. This one is a good choice, with three usb ports, wifi and simple to operate. The keyboard offers tactile and audible feedback. Its cheap but would be mounted with more memory, say 512M, and MS-Office-CE to edit files, like older wince devices (its possible only to view files, and edit text files). Battery works for about three hours with wifi on, and about two while presenting videos. I guess is a good cost/ benefit buy. I recomend to buy an expansion card (SD). Regards and good shop to all.

Mini Netbook

I bought this to help me keep track of car parts and it is perfect for what I needed. It has very few frills but comes with the necessary software that I needed, Excel. The downfalls that I have noticed is the battery life is very short and the internet explorer is out of date and can not be updated(as far as I can tell anyway). But, I didn't buy it to get online anyway, it boots up quickly and seems to work just fine. I would recommend this only if you need a personal netbook that is not going to be on for very long and can do basic functions and is not going to be used for internet very much. One more thing I like about it is it does not have a hard drive but uses flash memory instead so there are no moving parts in it.

I bought this as a 2nd computer to go on the web. Windows CE doesn't have a flash player, and I found it was hard to use. Definitely not a computer for kids or beginners. The processor is quite slow as well, facebook is dial up speed. I'd say this compares to the browser on a mobile phone. Very little memory as well, but it can be expanded with USB Flash or SD Cards. You can't play any games on this, even online besides the already installed solitaire program. I would recommend paying a bit more to get something with Windows 7.
