Product description

Synopsis
George Washington was born into the Church of England, joined the Freemasons in his 20s, and became an Episcopalian after the American Revolution, but he never wrote or spoke much about his religious views. Scholars have been debating the first president's faith for over 200 years, with many concluding that Washington believed in a supreme being but had little use for organized religion. Peter Lillback's massive new tome aims to counter this contemporary take and prove once and for all that Washington was in fact an orthodox Christian.

Publisher's Note
An enlightening, engaging and long overdue correction of the falsehood that Washington lacked faith.

-Rodney Stark, Baylor University

George Washington, the uniquely venerated Founding Father of our nation, valiant warrior of the American Revolution, and devoted family man has been the subject of countless writings by scholars and storytellers alike. What sets George Washington's Sacred Fire apart from all previous literary works on this man for the ages, is the exhaustive fifteen years of Dr. Peter Lillback's research, revealing a world icon driven by the highest of ideals, not the least of which was his genuine Christian faith.

Dr. Lillback paints a picture of a man, who, faced with unprecedented challenges and circumstances, ultimately drew upon his persistent qualities of character - honesty, justice, equity, perseverance, piety, forgiveness, humility, and servant leadership, to become one of the most revered figures in world history.

A vast number of books on George Washington are characterized by anecdotal recountings and factually unsubstantiated conclusions that, up to now, few have strived to correct. However, George Washington's own writings, journals, letters, manuscripts, and those of his closest family and confidants reveal the truth of this awe-inspiring role model for all generations.

George Washington set the cornerstone for what would become one of the most prosperous, free nations in the history of civilization. "Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports," he said in his farewell address. Through this book, Dr. Lillback, assisted by Jerry Newcombe, reveals to the reader a highly inspirational image of General and President George Washington.

Rewritten History Set Straight

Created: 28/06/10
It has been in vogue since the 1960's to rewrite history to fit our values. This incredible book debunks one of the favorite myths that George Washington was a Diest. Sacred Fire does not use empty words to make it's arguments, rather it uses Washington's own spoken and written correspondance to reveal the strength of Washington's Christian Faith.

While an easy read, it is a well reserched and documented volume. This is NOT some little paperback book. It is an inspiratonal thesis exposing the value of our first President's Christian Faith and should be required reading by every High School student.

Accurate Overview of the book

Created: 10/02/11
Extraordinary research on the spiritual and theological background of our founding father George Washington. This is a well written analysis that responds to critics that George Washington was not a Christian but a deist believing in a broader concept of a higher power but not Christ. The detailed research is beyond my expectation of a dull history book and outlines his Christian educational and family roots in Christian theology.

George Washington's Sacred Fire Pete Lillback

Don't waste your money. The book uses Thomas Paine as a reference for what they call "Hard Deism",and they have no clue what a Deist,or Deism is all about.

Self serving book that misses the mark completely. You realize this in the first few chapters, otherwise all of George Washington's writings are all on line for free.
