Germ Guardian UV-C Room Air Purifier

We bought a house, put new carpet in the basement and did not run a dehumidifier last summer. We noticed a strong must, moldy odor and were concerned we'd need to replace the brand new carpet. Bought a dehumidifier ($250), which helped, but the basement was still unbearable at times. Bought two large carbon/hepa air purifiers ($350) and baking soda'd the whole basement. Still not much relief and now everything had white dust everywhere.

Finally bought this little Germ Guardian which does only 200 sqft, our basement is 2,000 sqft, and the must was gone in less than a day! Our eyes no longer burn and we can use our basement again!
After about a week, we moved the Germ Guardian to different locations in the basement and let it run for about a day in each spot.
I HIGHLY recommend this technology. I will buy another, and probably an HVAC UVC light as well, for our air conditioning/heating duct system.
This will not kill the mold in the carpet pad, obviously, however, any mold spores that are kicked up get sucked into this little guy and die instantly - never to reproduce.
I know that some folks have experienced problems with the lights burning out within a couple of months (not ours yet), however, you can get the lights for $10 here on ebay.
When you're suffering, you will pay anything to rid a problem. This will take care of it - you will not be disappointed.

This unit is very quiet, nice looking, and takes up very little space.
Because it is contained in a steel tube, the light will not fade or denature your carpet, upholstry or paint. And the UV light cannot hurt your eyes or skin. The light is only 9 watts, so the energy consumption is low.

I would have paid twice the cost of this unit just knowing that it works.

I purchased the Germ Guardian UV-C Room Air Purifier on the recommendation of a friend. He became ill every trip he made in his second-hand motor home, the apparent culprit being moldy carpet. Using the Germ Guardian (and before replacing the carpet) in the motor home, he made several weekend trips without problems. In Southeast Texas we have very warm, very humid air, and molds thrive everywhere. Allergic to mold, I purchased the Germ Guardian to minimize my exposure. I have not had an allergic reaction for a month, since activating the Germ Guardian in my home. This model treats a limited space, but seems adequate for my tiny 500 sq. ft. apartment, where I have it centrally located to affect all rooms equally.

I had a room in my home that I have used as my office space/den for about 10 years now. It has always had a low-grade funky mold smell to it despite having scrubbed the room and its ajoining bathroom to get rid of any mold that might be present. We have never seen any big or even little mold/mildew in the room, but it has always had the low moldy smell.

I've been using this Germ Guardian UV-C Room Air Purifier for about a week now, and I would say that moldy smell is gone. So, for me the unit has done it's job. It's a really sturdy looking unit. Only it is a little noisy on high fan speed. Nothing too bad, but you can hear it going. That might be annoying to some. You will just have to turn down the fan speed to make it a little quieter.

I bought Germ Guardian because it is a compact UV-C air freshner. I like it because the plug swivels to orient it 180 degrees to fit my grounded outlet in the bathroom. The powerful fan is a bit loud but sounds similar to white noise. I was surprised to learn that the UV-C light will need regular replacement in less than a year. I am pleased with my purchase and would buy another if this one fails.

I bought it about two months ago at a low price on eBay and have been very satisfied with it's efficiency.
This purifier is quiet and does what it promises...
If I had a choice once more, I would have bought it without any hesitation...
I must add, I am a smoker and have a cat, so the smell of my place before I bought Germ Guardian Sanitizer, was overwhelming but now, all the smell is practically gone...
It does it's job really well...
