The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (DVD, 2003)

One of America's best-loved funnymen, Don Knotts, stars as Luther Heggs, a typesetter who dreams of becoming a reporter. The opportunity to have "a real by-line" comes in the form of the local haunted house, which Luther spends the night in. He emerges the next morning full of stories about garden shears in throats, bleeding paintings and organs playing by themselves. Now the town celebrity, Luther and his would-be girlfriend end up solving the riddle of the old house and putting a murderer behind bars. Lots of running gags enliven this movie -- a group of prim, hat-wearing lodge women who try to contact the supernatural; an unseen man who calls out, "Atta boy, Luther!"; and just try to count all the cameos by people who starred with Knotts on The Andy Griffith Show. There are quite a few plot holes, but what plot there is moves quickly and will hold your attention for the full 90 minutes. Suitable for the entire family!

This has been a family favorite for years, and finally we have it on DVD! Don Knotts plays a wannabe reporter/hero, who gets the chance to prove his "ghost story" and solve a murder at the same time. Too funny!

When I was a kid, every year around halloween a movie called "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken", starring Don Knotts, would come on and my cousins and I thought that it was both scary and funny.

This year, I thought about that movie while talking with my wife about childhood memories and we wondered whether or not if we could find it. After looking for it at the movie rental stores to no avail, I thought maybe I could find it on Ebay. To our surprise, it was available on DVD and we purchased it.

Watching it brought back a lot of memories and we really like the fact that Ebay can truly help you find whatever it is we are looking for.

A family classic that will appeal to young and old alike. Don Knotts is at his best! The plot follows a timid aspiring reporter out to get the scoop by spending the night in the towns Haunted House and bumbles into a mystery. Timeless comedy!

Don Knotts stars in this zany, comical film that manages to toss 'Murder, Mystery, and Romance' together, along with a detective story to boot. Just like 'Mayberry', the film is filled with memorable characters, hometown warmth, and some unforgettable organ music! What the film credits WON'T tell you is that Andy Griffith completely rewrote the script! Every movie buff should have this film in their collection. It's good clean fun for the younger kids at Halloween, and equally entertaining for adults as well. Now that Don Knotts is no longer with us, this film will certainly be in big demand!
