Ghost Rider (Blu-ray Disc, 2007, Extended Cut)

Mark Steven Johnson, Nicolas Cage|Theatrical release: 2007 | Rating: PG-13 (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

The prophetically named Johnny Blaze and his father perform death-defying stunts in a carnival, but the real danger to his dad's life is the cancer growing within his dying body. To save him, Johnny makes a deal with Mephistopheles (Peter Fonda, EASY RIDER) and sacrifices his soul. When his father is killed mid-stunt, Johnny runs away, leaving behind his grief and a young love named Roxanne. Years later, Johnny (Nicolas Cage, WORLD TRADE CENTER ) is the most famous rider in the country. Despite his daredevil tendencies, Johnny is a different man when he's not riding his bike. Though he wears leather jackets and pants, he prefers jelly beans to Jim Beam while listening to the Carpenters. Years have passed since Johnny has seen the love of his life, but he still carries a torch for Roxanne (Eva Mendes, HITCH). When he sees her after a stunt, he tries to regain her love and trust. But it's time for the devil to take his due as he brings Johnny into an epic battle with Blackheart (Wes Bentley, AMERICAN BEAUTY). In the presence of evil, Johnny transforms into a super-strong skeleton with a flaming skull who has the power to defeat Blackheart and his minions. As Johnny, Cage plays a cross between his Elvis devotee in WILD AT HEART and the sensitive he-man in CON AIR. The evil Mephistopheles is Fonda's most memorable role since his Oscar-nominated turn in ULEE'S GOLD, and this film provides an opportunity for him to return to the spotlight. GHOST RIDER doesn't rank with the best of the comic book adaptations such as SPIDER-MAN and BATMAN BEGINS, but director Mark Steven Johnson (DAREDEVIL) provides a film driven by both humor and action.

Ghost Rider (Blu-ray Disc, 2007, Extended Cut)

Not sure how much this movie follows the original Marvel comic book. As someone who has not read the comic, I'll just judge the movie. The special effects were more than generous and looked great in Bluray. The sound quality in bluray was superb! The story was basicly about the devil and the good side. A young man who's father stricken with cancer makes a deal for his soul with the devil. In turn his father cancer is gone. But dies anyways LOL. Then the good vs evil starts. Not sure if it's a buy but a good rent.

To give you a bit of an idea about where I am coming from in this review I did collect the Ghost Rider comics from the early 90's for a few years. So I was well versed in the story and history of "The Ghost Rider" when I went to watch this movie.

I can say that first of all this Marvel comics movie is no where near the level of the Spiderman, Iron Man, or X-men movies. In fact I think this movie falls in line with movies that Marvel put out like Daredevil and The Punisher movie. It is a solid 3/5.

The acting of Nicolas Cage is decent but not stellar. There is nothing wrong with his performance but it is not spectacular to say the least. The supporting actors are fine. The Blackheart character is a bit cheese though.

The strongest part of this movie is the Computer Graphics and the action. Personally, I'm glad they waited this long to create the movie in order to have the best CGI possible. How else can you have a Ghost Rider running around if you do not have the graphics for it.

The storyline is alright and captures the essence of The Ghost Rider comics. Nothing spectacular but you get the idea of what the rider is all about.

A solid 3/5. A great way to waste a Saturday afternoon but I'm not sure you can rewatch this movie a bunch of times.

Good marvel movie roughly based on the hit comics.

The movie is good considering that they were trying to stay true to the comics but keeping it somewhat family oriented. By no means as dark as the comics, this movie is a little lighter and chalkfull of quirky tidbits. The movie looks stunning in HD. From the skulls to the flames, all the way down to the chrome on the bikes. This movie is beautiful and enjoyable at the same time. Some true followers may find that the toned down Ghost Rider is far to different from the Ghost Rider found in the original comics. Compared to some of the other comic gone movie films; Ghost Rider is much more enjoyable than Daredevil, Elektra, and the Hulk. It may not live up to the expectations that Spider-Man achieved, it still is quite a good movie.

Ghost Rider (2007, Blu-ray Disc)

Nicholos Cage, What more can be said?. This was an intresting body of work in thisnew DVD format called the BluRay format. Crisp definition and a sound if you are an owner of Home Theatre equipment. The storyline is basic for a young man selling his soul for a better dream but only to serve for the better of things to form for all the world. The ghost rider as a crime fighter and a servant to his master leads to many eye popping enjoyment as the storyline saturates and fills the need for more. Experience this excellant body of work in its true development for 1080p but in any case still a awesome movie and effects.

In my opinion one of the greatest movies ever. Nicolas Cage is Perfect for the role and Eva Mendes...No need to say anything but WOW.
The Effects are awesome with a great use of CGI. And it was so much better in Blu-Ray. Colors are perfect.
