Rail Shooter Arcade Port on Wii

Created: 29/12/08
Ghost Squad is a very good game. Although it is not new, as it is a port of a popular late 90's arcade hit, Ghost Squad is none-the-less an exciting arcade game perfect for the Wii's hardware. This game is for use with the Wii Zapper, although it may be played with just a wii remote, it just feels natural when you're holding a pistol grip shooting enemies on the screen. If you like "Time Crisis" in the arcade, if you enjoyed any "House of the Dead" "Area 51" "Counter Force" or any other on rails shooter or if you've enjoyed this game in the arcade, it offers the same excitement in the home theater that it does at the local movie theater.

The game offers progression through leveling your character up when you earn experience after the end of every 3 mission set in arcade mode. Upon leveling to certain intervals you will receive awards of a higher rank, more costumes (there are some crazy ones) and better, stronger, more accurate and sweeter weapons.
Although there are only 3 missions you can play through, there are multiple paths you can take within each mission that combined with other paths make a multitude of scenarios that you can play, the game can be different each time you play through if you choose.

If you are thinking about getting this game I would suggest a few things:
1. This game should almost certainly be played with 2 players in arcade mode.
2. Get Wii Zappers (I would recommend the Nyko Perfect Shot).

There are a few things I would warn of:
1. Not all the guns or all the costumes are unlocked from the beginning just keep playing through arcade mode and you will unlock things.
2. The Game Is rated Teen for animated blood, suggestive themes, and violence; while the later two are true, the game does not actually show any blood the only thing that resembles blood is if you shoot a hostage an icon that says "missed shot" or "NO!" shows up over the hostage and the text is shown over a red splatter but I would say that the first "mortal kombat" had more blood than Ghost Squad.
3. As fun as this game is it's difficulty can be pretty steep.

All in all I am pleased with this game; I own "House of the Dead II & III", "Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles", and "Ghost Squad", and I have to say Ghost Squad has the most potential for different groups of people to enjoy than the other two rail shooters currently available for the Wii. So all in all even though this game is a remake of a classic arcade game Ghost Squad is one of my favorite Wii games and is a Excelent Addition to your Wii library.

Another great arcade port from Sega

Created: 12/11/10
Sega graces us again with a port of another one of their great arcade rail shooters for the Wii. Like with House of the Dead 2&3 Return, this is another fun, and classic light gun rail shooter brought to the Wii.

Because it's a port of a game released in the early 2000s, needless to say, it looks like a Playstation 2 title, however, no one's here for looks, anyone picking this up knows it because they played it in the arcade.

Like with House of the Dead 2&3 Return, all of the content is present here but Ghost Squad comes with a considerable amount of extras than House of the Dead. Aside from the standard game, there's a variety of different challenge modes, unlockables, and gameplay styles to try.

Such modes include a non-lethal enemy arrest mode, a super hard mode, a ninja mode, and an uncomfortable misogynistic bikini girl enemy mode.

Gameplay remains classic; the game directs you where to go, and you stop and shoot hostile enemies and rescue hostages until the screen is clear. Paths branch out, and even though they just lead to more enemies, it offers a smidgen more of replayability.

2-player mode returns as well, making for a fun filled day of nostalgia playing with a friend whom you may have played this game in the arcade with or played it himself. There isn't any online play though, which is unfortunate considering this is great with a partner, however there is an online leader board, for what that's worth.

Lots of content and 2-player mode keeps the replayability high but this is mainly for fans of arcade rail shooters, which in this day and age is becoming limited, unfortunately. Looking 8 years too old doesn't seem good to some people either, but all and all, this is a fun little game to have with company if no one wants to play Rock Band or Smash Brothers.

Also, when is Sega going to release their fantastic rail shooters of Rambo and Terminator? That's my question

A fun simple shooter

Created: 05/03/08
Ghost Squad for the Nintendo, Wii is a pretty fun first person shooter. With there being so few good shooters Ghost Squad sticks to the basics of a FPS. Point, shoot. You can use the Nintendo Zapper also but it's much easier to just use the WiiMote.

The game itself is only 3 missions but the level of each mission increases adding new tasks and pathways. For this reason there's a lot of replay value but only if you're someone who wants to unlock all the different weapons and costumes. It also has a nice 2 player which makes it a lot more fun. No online play though, just a scoring leader board. (Which isn't much)

Graphically it's OK, nothing mind blowing. If you're familiar with the arcade version of the game it's very similar but a bit more 'clean'.

If you can get a good deal on this game pick it up.

Ghost squad. less than expected but surprisingly good

Created: 15/02/08
i thought since it worked with the zapper it would utilize the nunchuck a little bit, but no not at all all you need is the a,+,b buttons but it works very well, unlike in Red Steel where the use of the nunchuck is basically needless item that made game play clunky, and it was little more than a selling point, the using the wii zapper makes it shine, or any other cheap knock-off gun will do
only three levels BUT they have different difficulties and choose your own adventure style that unlocks a different level within a level, am i sounding crazy, but all in all it's pretty good, co-op mode works alright, the 4 player multiplayer is odd, i wasn't a fan but maybe you would be over all it's solid, i mean it was an arcade game and it brings that feel majestically to the Wii., it brought back a little bit of when arcade games were cool and i'd spend my weeks allowance in them. if this would have been released a year ago it'd be an amazing title for the Wii.

Fun, classical arcade game

I like how this game is easy to play and has a wide variety of weapons and costumes to choose from. Plus as you keep beating the 3 different missions on different skill levels, you unlock tons of stuff that you can choose during your mission, such as choosing to rescue hostages, wiping out enemies, sniping, and much more.
