Ghostbusters (Blu-ray Disc, 2009)

Ivan Reitman, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd|Theatrical release: 1984 | Rating: PG (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

When Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murrary) and his Columbia University colleagues (Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson) are kicked out of their prestigious academic posts, they start a private practice as professional ghost-catchers. Although the three parascientists are idle for awhile, their television advertisements finally pay off when beautiful Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) contracts them. It seems her apartment has become the entryway for ghastly ghosts and goofy ghouls hellbent on terrorizing New York City. Soon they're going to her rescue, trying to rid the city of the slimy creatures. GHOSTBUSTERS hit US screens in June of 1984 and went on to become one of the most successful comedy films of all time, spawning a sequel and a popular animated series.

"GHOSTBUSTERS is still a rounded, rousing entertainment."
Premiere - Andy Webster (12/01/2004)

"What turned GHOSTBUSTERS into a classic was director Ivan Reitman's ability to stir genuine ghoulish scares into the clever dialogue and funny bits."

3.5 stars out of 4 -- "An 80s phenomenon and classic comedy, with Bill Murray upstaging everything in his path..."
Premiere (06/17/2009)

4 stars out of 5 -- "The leads' chemistry is almost, well, spooky, Dan Aykroyd's nerdy enthusiasm rubbing deliciously against a persona-perfect turn from Bill Murray..."

A True Timeless Classic

Created: 21/07/10
I love this movie it is with out a doubt my all time favorite movie. The reason I say that it's a all time classic is because it has no time frame reference or time period to it. You could watch this is the year 2060 and it would still be just is original and funny as it is today and as it was twenty five years ago.
I was very excited to hear that it was coming to blu-ray on the the twenty fifth anniversary. I must say that it was pretty well put together. I was very happy with all the special features and I especially liked slimer mode. It was very interesting to hear all the things that went on behind the camera from the cast and crew. It was really nice to see how beautiful the made Ecto 1 look. It was also cool to look inside and see all the cool little gadgets and equipment. Also if you have not checked out the Ghostbusters video game you should do so it is a very fun game.
The movie itself looked better then it ever did. It was kind of grainy in some spots but you can live through them. The worst is when Winston and Ray are driving down the bridge. I blame the sony studio for not cleaning it up very well. I mean I have seen movies on blu-ray much older then Ghostbusters and there is nowhere near as much grain to the pictures. So for this great movie I think they could have done a better job of cleaning it up and giving the fans a real treat instead of a half classed job.
Even with that said it's still very beautiful and colorful especially at the end with the big fight scene with Gozer the woman and Gozer the Traveler. The colors just jump off the screen. In that regard the picture has never looked better.
The sound was also the best I have ever heard for this movie. I love hearing the Stay Puff Marsmellow Man walking downtown Manhatten. It was very cool to hear and also when the roof exsploded when the ecto contanment unit was shout off. All and all it was really great audio.
Bottom line is if you are a fan of the Ghostbusters it is well worth it to buy this on blu-ray and if you are not formiler with the movie and want to see a great comedy defenatlly check out Ghostbusters. My hats off to the cast and crew and Ivan Reitman. I do hope they all get together and finish making Ghostbusters 3.

Bought this movie because i love ghostbusters!...i grew up watching the movies, cartoon series, video games, and playing with the toys which i still own...i have this movie on several formats but not on blu-ray so why not buy it? its a classic that never gets old for me...this is what made the ghostbusters amazing...ghostbusters 2 was ok but nothing close to the first as far as quality and story...you will never see another ghostbusters film as epic as this one...the closest thing you will get would be the ghostbusters video game on PS3 and XBOX 360..

A ghoulishy funny movie

Created: 02/03/11
Ghostbusters has always been a favorite movie of mine. I remember watching it as a young child and laughing mny butt off. There is no real horror in this mocie, just plain comedy from beginning to end. This movie is a great classic that cna be watched over and over again. The movie is now even better on blu ray.

Classic movie, always a good time.

While any older film translated to blu ray is not as sharp as a film released on blu ray, this nonetheless looked pretty good still. A classic movie on blu ray is all that anyone can ask for. Worth every penny.
