Product description

Synopsis
Go the F**k to Sleep (2011), written by Adam Mansbach, is a book for parents having trouble putting their little one to sleep. This Adam Mansbach book, in its own profane, affectionate, yet honest way, speaks about the frustrations as parents try hard, in vain, to send their baby to dreamland. The verses in this parenting book are extremely humorous, and will make you laugh uncontrollably. Go the F**k to Sleep (2011) speaks to anybody who knows the pain of trying to get their little angels to sleep -- whether you are new, old or even an expectant parent. Illustrations by Ricardo Cortes make this Adam Mansbach book radically beautiful and different from any other parenting book you have ever read. The author of this parenting book, Adam Mansbach, is a professor of fiction at Rutgers University.

Publisher's Note
"A children's book for grown-ups! I really did laugh out loud - hilarious!" - David Byrne, musician, father of one.

"Go the F**k to Sleep” is the secret anthem of tired parents everywhere. Adam Mansbach's homage to the tropes of bedtime stories is pitch perfect, and Ricardo Cortes's stunning illustrations will keep grown-ups and kids alike returning to these pages again and again!" - Bliss Boyard, author of “One Drop: My Father's Hidden Life”.

"I wish this book had been around during my daughter's overly protracted sleep rituals! Finally, someone tells it like it really is. This is no-guilt funny and a godsend!" - Cristina Garcia, author of “The Lady Matador's Hotel”, mother of one.

"This is the most honest children's book ever written. And it's f**king hilarious." - A.J. Jacobs, author of “The Year of Living Biblically”, father of three.

“Go the f**k To Sleep” is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don't always send a toddler sailing off to dreamland. Honest, profane, and affectionate, Adam Mansbach's verses and Ricardo Corts' illustrations perfectly capture the familiar — and unspoken — tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night, and opens up a conversation about parenting in the process. Beautiful, subversive, and pants-wettingly funny, “Go the F**k to Sleep” is a perfect gift for parents new, old, or expectant. Here are two sample verses: “The cats nestle close to their kittens now. The lambs have laid down with the sheep. You're cozy and warm, and I need a drink. Please go the f**k to sleep.” “The world is dark and silent, child. From the stars to the whales in the deep. Hell no, you can't go to the bathroom. You know where you can go? The f**k to sleep”. Adam Mansbach's daughter Vivien is two and a half. His novels include “The End of the Jews”, winner of the California Book Award, and the best-selling “Angry Black White Boy”, a “San Francisco Chronicle” Best Book of 2005. His fiction and essays have appeared in “The New York Times Book Review”, “The Boston Globe”, “Vibe”, “The Believer”, “Los Angeles Times”, and elsewhere. He is the 2010–2011 New Voices Professor of Fiction at Rutgers University. This is his first children's book. You probably should not read it to actual children, and if you do, he cannot be held legally responsible. Ricardo Corts has illustrated books about electricity, the Jamaican bobsled team, and Chinese food. His work has been featured in “The New York Times”, “Vanity Fair”, “Entertainment Weekly”, “New York” magazine, “The Village Voice”, the |San Francisco Chronicle”, and on CNN and FOX News.

”Total genius." - Jonathan Lethem, author of “Motherless Brooklyn”, father of two.

Industry Reviews
"Writers don't use expletives out of laziness or the puerile desire to shock or because we mislaid the thesaurus. We use them because, sometimes, the four letter word IS the better word--indeed, the best one."

Perfect real-life book for real-life parents of children who when it's time, just will not go the F to sleep. Laugh out loud funny and absolutely worth every penny. Great illustrations and definitely a wonderful conversation piece. If you haven't read this book, purchase it and you won't regret it. You probably shouldn't read it to your children until they are old enough to appreciate it!

I HIGHLY recommend this to people THINKING about getting pregnant. Read it TOGETHER -- BEFORE you stop the contraception. It's funny beyond words but the element of truth is the REAL eye opener!!!!

Best of all, you don't even have to be a parent to pee your pants laughing at this book -- if you have a niece, nephew, a friend with kids - ANYone you have ever watched with the purple dinosaur, a blankie, or a glass of milk trying to coddle the little monster into closing their f--ing eyes and embracing the f--ing sandman you will DEFINITELY relate to this BUT you really don't even have to RELATE to it to laugh out loud at the mental images this book conjures up. A quarter of the way through it you'll be thinking a benedryl in a sippy cup of juice just does NOT seem so much like child abuse after all.

I purchased this book because of how much our friends talked about it and I do not regret it! This is not a book that a lot of parents (including myself) will read to their child, but I'm sure we, as parents, have all felt this way from time to time. This is a laugh out loud, hilarious book that I would definitely recommend to any parent with a sense of humor. I loved it!

Halarious, Adult (children's) book. It tells it like is when you put your child(ren) to bed, or at least what you would really like to say. I have children and this book is the truth of what it is like to put them to bed and the battle to get them to sleep, in an adult manner.
