The Gods of the Nations (D. I. Block) - 2001
Created: 02/10/06
This book manages to be both technical and concise. It details the relgious atmosphere surrounding (& including) ancient Israel. It provides the kind of background that sheds light on so much of the Old Testament, especially passages dealing with the idolatry of Israel and/or her interactions with other nations. This book is not for the casual reader, but it is the sort of book that, when read & understood, makes the Bible "live." Highly recommended.
