    Publisher's Note
The introduction to this directory gives friendly guidance about selling records, including an extensive frequently-asked-questions section. Spruced up with some design changes and enhanced with added listings, this fourth edition guide lists the work of popular, rock, country, soul, and r&b music performers who made their first record in 1975 or earlier. It contains 150,000 listings of records of four different types: 45 rpm singles, LPs, extended-play 7-inch singles, and 12-inch singles--along with value information for three grades of condition. Arrangement is alphabetical by artist or group name. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Indispensable price guide for record collectors

    Created: 06/04/07
If you have a pretty sizeable collection of records from the 50's, 60's, and 70's, you may be sitting on a "goldmine". Just like any other collectible, a record album may have been issued in a number of variations, especially if the artist was popular or the album was a heavy seller and re-issued over the years. This price guide gives you detailed information in its listings that tells you how to figure out whether you have a first pressing or a re-issue, and what it's worth compared to the other re-issues. Or if you have a cover variation of an album - you may not have even known that a certain album was released with different cover artwork. And that's a big help when you're buying records online. First issues may be worth way more than re-issues, and you need to know this so you don't get burned if the price runs up in an auction on a re-issued version of a record. So I consider this price guide a "must-have" for buying online.

And there's a great Introduction section describing how to determine the condition of your albums based on established standards, plenty of ads for sellers of collectible records and supplies, etc.

Don't get hung up on buying the new editions of this catalog. Only the rarest records move much in price from year to year. Any edition that's been issued within the past 5 years has pretty much the same prices for the most common records. Supposedly though, the listings and type of listings keep expanding each year.

Easy to read format (compared to some of the other price guides out there); lists LPs, EPs, 45s and their picture sleeves separately; (not 78s though); jazz; blues; R&B; Various Artists collections; those Christmas promo albums that used to be given away if you bought tires; the most obscure rock groups. If you can remember it, it's probably in there.
