As a practioner of Gracie Jiu Jitsu This book is my bible, written by the grandmaster and founder of GJJ Helio Gracie it gives a history of his art and tells you how as a young boy Helio was to weak to practice Japanese Jiu jitsu that had been taught to his older brother Carlos in the early 1900s by Mitsuyo Meada (aka Count Coma ), who was a Jiu Jitsu and Kodokan Judo black belt who had come to Brazil with the intent of divulging the Japanese Martial Arts. His brother started training regularly with Maeda and rapidly became one of his top students. All Carlos learned in the Jiu Jitsu classes he would then try and pass on to his brothers. They would spar regularly, however, Helio wasn’t allowed to be a part of the actual fighting as he was to fragile, instead he would stand aside and try to understand the mechanics of the Jiu Jitsu game adapting it to fit his weak frail body, one day a sudent turned up for a class but Carlos was running late so Helio told the student that he would teach him, after the class the student was so happy with what he had learned he asked if Helio could be his teacher from that point on, and so Gracie Jiu jitsu as we know it today was born. You will read about the Gracie challenge matches where Helio would take on all comers from any discipline to prove that his style would always prevail. How the great Kimura (5 times world jiu jitsu champion) was so impressed with Helio that he asked him to go to Japan to teach his art. it then goes on to tell you about how Rorion went to America and gave GJJ to the world by inventing the UFC (ultimate fighting championship). Then you get on to the moves, it shows a number of basic moves that have been proven to work over 90 years of practice, the pictures are very clear and easy to understand. this book as a whole is a masterpiece by the Grandmaster himself.

Packed w/ color photos with all the techniques. biogaphy, diet, ect. A must have for any Helio or Rorion Gracie student. Gracie Jiu Jitsu explained by the grandmaster himself! A++++++++++++++++++++++++
