I chose dots as the title to this review, because, I'm not sure if I'm the only one who noticed this or not, but the guy NEVER SAYS ONE DAMN WORD!
I realized that one day and it had me cracking up for half an hour.
granted, I'm still on the mission where you have to rescue that lady from the cartel... which I've been at for months now =\
anywho, wheeeere to begin... this game is too sweet for it's own good.
you play as this guy. I don't know his name, age, nationality, what he likes on his burgers, or anything. all I know is his girlfriend was a b****.
it starts out you're pulling a bank job. you, your then-girlfriend and some other dude are running out the back of the bank. they're ahead of you when you hear a gunshot. you round the corner to a gun in your face, as you see your accomplice lying on the ground, dead. "sorry honey, but you're just small time" your girlfriend says before she shoots you (must not have been in the face cuz you survived)
you're tried, and on the way to jail someone blows up the bridge, freeing you and all the other inmates. you and your new friend 8-ball grab a car and head for your base (of the moment, which is a run-down hole-in-the-wall room downtown). from then on, it's just nuts. you get drawn into a mafioso maelstrom, as you remain taciturn.
the controls are precise, and tight. learning curve of about half an hour.
the music is great, as you have a full range of music on your car stereo.
the gameplay is so addictive, you can spend hours just running around, entering the cheat codes and blowing stuff up and beating up on random passers-by. I used to see how many helicopters I could take out before being overwhelmed. for those times when you just wanna shoot s*** up, I'd recommend the monorail system tracks. you're virtually untouchable up there.
anywho, the story keeps you drawn in. you feel the betrayals, and the revenge.
you feel the satisfaction of a job well done, and the shame of a job totally down the sh**er "DAMMIT! I ONLY HAD TO TAKE OUT ONE MORE SNIPER!!!" etc etc
if you like your games violent, mafia-esque, and addictive, then this will suit you well.
I can't actually fathom anyone owning a PS2 and not owning this game.
this was the first game I bought for it. and the only one I needed for over a month, even without a memory card.

A good beginner game for PS2
Created: 19/05/06
This game was a good beginner game to GTAs series of games to come, because it showed basically how the others would be like. If you like driving and running over people with a car while doing missions and earning money; this is one of 3 games for you. The other 2 are of course the other 2 GTA's and 3 if you have a PSP also, unless they realease GTA Liberty City out on PS2 also. This game taught you the basics of the upcoming GTA's. to drive, dodge cops, and also how to earn losts of money without doing much work at all. In the others you will also learn other things that help earning money and getting away from cops easier and faster, but until you get to that point this game is for you.

Sniper Anyone?
Created: 06/05/09
Like most people I know, how could you stand playing the original Grand Theft Autos on the first Playstation? I know I couldn't...maybe the ariel view made me sick. One of the biggest anticipations for games to be released in 2001, Grand Theft Auto III is the V8 balls to the walls for action/driving games. This sniper rifle toting, people shooting, car smashing, hooker struting, mafia genre will have you playing for hours on end. Probably without a doubt one of my favorite games of all time.
Oh that's right the game also has missions which is the key summary of GTAIII. Okay so if you get bored of just smashing into cars, snipering peoples heads off, or riding around in an Army tank, you can play the many missions that are just as fun, exciting and sometimes funny. What's also great is they have an A-list cast doing the voice overs for the characters. So get out there, steal that police cruiser, buckle up and avoid the FBI at all costs.

I bought this because my 12 year old wanted it. I don't play these games and I wouldn't let him play it when younger. He has a lot of games and has the wii at his moms but he just can't get enough of this game. He talks about how huge an area it is played in and he constantly learns new ways to take cars with him to other places or how to avoid losses. Dad, Dad! Come look at this!! He got cheat codes of the web and he just passes time driving around wasting people (when I let him) so its all cool right?? He says he doesn't kill the hookers on purpose so he's still a good kid. I REALLY NEED TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY SO WE CAN BOND IN WAYS OTHER THAN SPORTS AND BOY SCOUTS AND HUNTING. What man doesn't want to go smash cars and waste people with his little boy eh? Just don't tell your mother!

You can either play the missions or just raise hell in Liberty city. So many different things to do. Jack people from thier cars and drive on down the road. Cops chase ya,bad guys chase ya, it's a fast paced game you control. good graphics and fun . You control what you do and play until your heart is content breaking all the laws!~
