Good, short book for anyone especially Lewis fans

I love this book because I am a big Lewis fan. I read this book for the first time in high school in 11th grade from the recomendation from my older brother. I fell in love with this book immediately, and I even wrote a 16-page paper about him. This is a good book confronting the reality of what Heaven and Hell really are. It is a short book, but it does not lack in description or symbolism. If you haven't read anything by Lewis but the Chronicles, don't expect this book to be the same. It is totally different, yet to those who are Lewis fanatics, The Great Divorce is very much like the Chronicles. When I say they are different, I mean the Chronicles are Sci-Fi, but The Great Divorce though it is fantasy, it is more realistic than talking fawns and whatnot.

After reading the Chronicles of Narnia, I decided to read more of CS Lewis. This book is written allegorical style and one has to decide exactly what the writer is saying. Can be difficult reading, but it was very interesting. This story is about person in Pergatory who takes a bus ride through Pergatory.Pergatory is described as a gray area, not light and not completely dark. He encounters many people (ghosts) along the way and discovers in all of them their reasoning or excuses for not wanting to go on to heaven or hell. CS Lewis, a Catholic, obviously believed in Pergatory. Very enlightening and if you like this writing style, you will enjoy it.

I didn't like the book at first because of the writting style but came to like it towards the end as I understood more what the authors idea of heaven and hell was. Good Book.

One of the best allegories I've read. Excellent.

C.S. Lewis is one of the greatest apologist of the 20th century. His ability to deal with though spiritual issues with surgical precision is incredible. For the seeker who wants a clear-minded, pure-hearted perspective on God, Satan, Heaven & hell, there is no better other the the Holy Bible.

What a great book!
While fictional, it plausibly displays the mindset of hell - and why those there would rather stay there - and in their own worldview - than be in heaven and have to concede that they had been greatly mistaken for years!
