Album Notes
Eurythmics: Annie Lennox (vocals, keyboards); David A. Stewart (guitar, keyboards).Additional personnel includes: Aretha Franklin (vocals); Stevie Wonder (harmonica).1991's GREATEST HITS is a somewhat conservative compilation which unfortunately overlooks both 1981's IN THE GARDEN and 1984's FOR THE LOVE OF BIG BROTHER, two of Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox's most interesting and experimental albums. That said, it's an excellent overview of the duo's career. All of the band's singles and some of their better album tracks are featured here, in a balanced survey of their evolution from the chilly English art-rockers who recorded the hypnotic "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)," to the soulful R&B-influenced pair responsible for the ripping "Would I Lie to You," the passionate "Angel," and the billowing "There Must Be an Angel Playing with My Heart." Many of Eurythmics' albums are somewhat uneven--1984's TOUCH and 1985's BE YOURSELF TONIGHT are perhaps the best--but this 63-minute collection is an excellent starting point for the neophyte.

3 stars out of 5 - ...they had their moments. Her lyrics were anodyne and she seemed to spend most of her time polishing up her unsexiness, but he was a master of the layered soundscape...

Annie Lennox & David Stewart Sing Sweet Dreams

Created: 14/07/06
The Eurythmics are Annie Lennox (vocals, keyboards) & David A. Stewart (guitar, keyboards). Annie Lennox's dark seductive voice and counter-culture beauty only add the necessary jazzing up of the non-traditional rock-art songs with which they experiment. On this greatest hits album Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder join in. Let's call this 64 minutes of Lennox and Stewart's musical mastery vanilla mystery in comparison to some of their more controversial music from their 1981 and 1984 CDS.

The duo has been called "English art-rockers," for lack of a category to put their music into. The near mono-tone straight-faced Lennox lead singing "Sweet Dreams" is what made their name in the beginning. The song and the artist projected an erotica that was becoming public and visible in bigger US cities, like Seattle, DC, Minneapolis, Atlanta, La Vegas, and NYC. Song's like "Missionary Man," didn't take much of an imagination to understand the hidden meanings thereof. In "Sweet Dreams," it was Stewart's and Lennox's special keyboard effects that sounded like whips that made their music intriguing to an emerging US sexual counter-culture; plus, Lennox's range of voice that went into songful screams of ecstasy.

Their music always seems to leave me wanting and questioning, "did they really say and play what I just heard?" If it's erotica, it's understated enough to draw me into it.

Everything I wanted in one nice package!

Created: 08/09/09
After I heard the song, "Who's that Girl" and "I Need a Man" I had to buy this CD. I also found the song "Love is a Stranger" on this CD. I did not know who sang that song. A pleasant surprise. I love the entire collection album! However, I had to buy the last album "Peace" to get my fix for the song "I Saved the World Today." I made a personal mixed CD of Annie Lennox and the Eurythmics, but I did not have enough room on one CD for all my faves. No matter I Love the Eurythmics so much I have to keep all the CD's handy.

Eurythmics Greatest Hits

Created: 06/12/06
Annie Lennox has the greatest voice of all times and the background vocalist is also great. I heard the song "Must have been an angel playing with my heart"playing in a department store one night and knew I had to have this. I went on line and found the song and the artist and purchased. I love this CD because it is pleasant to listen to.

Created: 04/12/06
Great music never goes out of style ,nor is ever forgotten. The cd of the Eurythmics is fantastic.Remembering when the songs were new., just out and what I was doing when I heard these songs for the first time. Now to listen once again to the upbeat and the mellow voice of Annie Lennox. From decade to decade music is ever changing,BUT great lyrics and style stay always fresh.
