Album Notes
Full performer name: Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble.Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble: Stevie Ray Vaughan (vocals, guitar); Reese Wynans (keyboards); Tommy Shannon (bass); Chris Layton (drums); Doyle Bramhall.Producers include: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Richard Mullen, Jim Gains, Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon.Includes liner notes by Dan Forte.Liner Note Author: Dan Forte. When Stevie Ray Vaughan's helicopter crashed in August 1990, the world lost more than just a musical giant. Stevie Ray's short life contained all the elements of a hero's journey--from obscurity, through adversity, to glory. His meteoric rise in the public's eye began after a stellar performance at the 1982 Montreaux Jazz Festival, which led to a gig with David Bowie (on LET'S DANCE) and a demo that ended up becoming TEXAS FLOOD, an outstanding debut from one of the most influential blues artists ever to call Texas home.Five years after his passing, Vaughan is honored with a GREATEST HITS collection, gathering songs from each phase of his recording career. From that first album comes the seminal "Pride And Joy," a hard-swinging rhythmic twister revealing Stevie Ray's prowess on the guitar. The man was a monster--simultaneously playing sweaty rhythms and soulful leads, while also handling vocal chores. When he moans that "it's flooding down in Texas, all the telephones lines are down," the depth of his emotion makes you feel the water rising. The guitar solo that follows--reaching, bending, testifying--can only come from someone truly in touch with his soul, and with the soul of his Stratocaster. It elicits a stunning array of colors, with a tone as warm and gruff as all of the Lone Star state. After TEXAS FLOOD (1983), COULDN'T STAND THE WEATHER (1984) and SOUL TO SOUL (1985), Vaughan took control of his life and confronted his substance abuses. GREATEST HITS kicks off with a high-energy, blues-shuffle rendition of "Taxman," recorded on his first trip to the studio since becoming sober, and in Stevie Ray's hands The Beatles' tune sounds as Texan as the man himself. 1989's IN STEP was further testimony to his recovery and to his conquest of demons that seem to haunt every legendary blues man. GREATEST HITS is the soundtrack to these struggles and triumphs.

I am a person. When I buy an instrunment or cd or sheet music, I buy because I can feel the item. What the item means to a deapth.

Stevie Ray was and is still a soulful individual. As long as we listen to his music he'll be here.I could go on but, I've said what I needed. We've lost a lot of good people from the world of music. Jimi, Janice, Stevie Ray. Lots more. I guess in someways, I won't to preserve some of the good in this life.

Im not hemingway. I've said enough. Buy for fun or Love of something. Good night every body. Jim Flyswatter.

I have always been a blues fan and have always known the name Stevie Ray Vaughan. He is one artist I just had never purchased. I have always loved the song Pride and Joy but didn't realize he's the artist who recorded it, so I was very thrilled to find that song on this CD. It was a great ebay find!! Thank You!!

Best Way to Remember Stevie Ray

Created: 10/11/08
I wanted a Best Of Stevie Ray Vaughn that I could put into the car CD player with no fuss. This one fit the bill. All the famous songs and a couple lesser known. No filler. All engineered well except the first cut. Maybe it's an older song. A real Cold Shot of Stevie Ray. Recommended.

Created: 12/08/07
THIS IN NO DOUBT, IS THE BEST OF THAT WE WILL EVER GET TO HEAR. HEAR WAS AN EXAMPLE OF A BRIGHT YOUNG STAR TAKEN A WAY FROM HIS FANS WAY WAY TO SOON. HERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA I CAN SAY ONLY ONE THING, IS I'M GLAD I NEVER MISSED ONE OF HIS SHOWS WHEN IN TOWN OR SURROUNDING AREAS. THIS CD IS THE BEST OF STEVIE THAT WEV'E HEARD TO DATE. BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE ALL THOSE GEMS JUST SITTING IN A VAULT COLLECTING DUST? C'MON NOW JIMMY START RELEASING THOSE BAD BOYS. TUPACS BEED PASSED FOR AWHILE NOW, AND HIS MOTHER KEEPS HIM IN OUR PRESENCE. IT MAY BE HARD AS HELL TO DO BUT I KNOW IN MY HEART JUST AS THIS CD IS SOME OF HIS GREATEST STUFF. THERE IS ALOT MORE WE HAVE YET TO HEAR. WHEN IN 93012 LOOK ME UP JIMMY,I'M THE GUY WITH VILLA AND ZAPATA TATTOOED ON MY LEG THE BEST ONLY CAN GET ONLY BETTER, LET THOSE SESSIONS LOOSE. AND FOR YOU STEVIE RAY FANS IT JUST DON'T GET ANY BETTER. REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND STEVIE RAY VAUGHN, REST IN PEACE.

Like Stevie Ray?

Any Stevie Ray Vaughan fan will like this CD. I'm sure many buy complete collections, so check the titles and make sure you are getting the songs you like when you buy a single CD disc. I would have rather had "Willi the Wimp" than "Tax Man" (by the Beatles) on this CD.. but that's OK, he kicks butt on that too.
