Movie synopsis

GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS: In 1988, British director Alan Clarke set a high benchmark for movies about soccer hooliganism with a brutal, unflinching drama called THE FIRM. Few dared follow in Clarke's estimable footsteps. But filmmaker Lexi Alexander, who joined a gang of soccer thugs during her childhood in Germany, seems well placed to be the director of GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS, which returns to the controversial subject matter some 17 years after Clarke's film. Matt Buckner (Elijah Wood) is a student who travels to London after getting kicked out of Harvard. Ostensibly there to visit his sister, Matt instead forms an unlikely bond with her husband's brother, Pete Dunham (Charlie Hunnam), who takes him to a soccer match to see his team, West Ham. At the game, the inevitable happens, and Matt's initial trepidation at the violence swelling around him soon turns into a pulse-racing, visceral thrill. Suddenly finding a taste for the hooligan life, Matt joins Pete's "firm," the Green Street Elite, leading to further booze-fueled confrontations and providing an opportunity for Matt to keep a journal explaining why he's attracted to such a violent pursuit. Surprisingly, Elijah Wood manages to fit perfectly into a role that seems ill-suited to his elfin, wide-eyed looks. British actor Charlie Hunnam, who starred in the U.K. version of QUEER AS FOLK and TV's UNDECLARED, neatly complements Wood as the Cockney boy who leads him into danger, and together the two actors manage to carve out convincingly violent characters. A loud, energetic soundtrack and roaming, trembling camera work create a disquieting atmosphere in a movie punctuated with scenes of rampant brutality. Sensibly not trying to ape Alan Clarke's approach to the subject matter, Alexander has instead created a very effective work built on her own experience.

One of the BEST Movies EVER ~ A totally NEW Elija Wood!

Created: 05/01/10
**WOW!!** I love EVERYTHING about this movie!! I love Pete's character and Charlie Hunniman; super IMPRESSIVE!! Elija Wood totally ROCKED in THIS MOVIE - you just have to see it for yourself!! British director Alan Clarke sets a high benchmark for movies about soccer hooliganism with this brutal, unflinching drama; Awesome & suspenseful story; I had no idea about "Football Firms" till I saw this and how serious they take it in London. The little Soccer kids were AMAZING - just like a Junior Olympic Football League like Matt Buckner said in the movie after they kicked his but!! EXTREMELY VIOLENT AND NOT FOR EVERYONE!! Great performance by choice to Mothers in particular take CAUTION before watching this movie!! I can't say much more because it's FULL of SUPRISES EVERY TIME YOU TURN AROUND & I DON'T WANT TO SPOIL IT!! It's kind of a "guys" movie to watch with the guys, rather than take a date to, I'm a woman & mother of 3 son's and it is one of my FAVORITES but I'm not a typical "girly, girl"...it really gets you in the gut when you have seen the whole thing! Must watch a least 3 times because it's so easy to miss allot, plus the language is hard to understand the first time around and I'm a true YANKEE!! **LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!** BUY IT & SEE FOR YOURSELF!!!

Green Street Hooligans

This movie is elijah wood at his best. i don't really like him as a actor but in this movie he shines. the rest of the cast is european guys but they are very good as wel. basically the movie is about the rivalry of soccer gangs or firms as i think they are called in the movie. also it shows how these guys live there mundane lives and how once a game starts they have time to let loose. all leading to fights when you are outnumbered at least 5 to 1 in one part. to see the part when elijah is in his first fight in the movie compared to what he turns into. a total american weenie into a convincing drinking chain smoking fighter. Green Street Hooligans is a must see and a must own

Green Street Hooligans! Must See!

Created: 21/08/06
If you like fightclub then this is a MUST SEE! It is a great action movie about being pushed to the limits. It is a test of trust, loyalty and personal gains from fighting and standing your ground. The movie depicts the violent life of a firm (gang) of futbol enthusiates in England. Elijah Wood, a Harvard dropout, finds himself in the middle of a war between futbol gangs in England.

If you liked movies like fightclub and snatch...THIS IS A MOVIE YOU CAN'T MISS!

ICF not GSE!!!

Created: 09/07/06
Ok,this is about the ICF (inter city firm) and not the GSE, but that's alright I'm not going to whine about that. It was actually a very good movie, the only thing I didn't like was Elijah Wood. I just didn't find him convincing enough as a West Ham bovver boy from the beginning to the end. They should've got someone else in that role, more like Mark Wahlberg. Other than that I enjoyed it, especially the fella that plays the leader of the Millwall firm-VERY REAL, loved it. Good story, nice violence, good film.

For Fans of Elijah Wood

Created: 03/05/07
My daughter is a devoted Elijah Wood fan and is collecting his movies. This movie was an insider's look into the world of soccer fans and their behavior. It is definitely not for young viewers because there is a lot of violence and swearing. The movie details fans of a soccer team and what happens when fans of different teams collide. I have seen soccer riots on TV and have read about the clashes between fans of different teams, but this movie really brings a sense of how fans can turn violent when provoked.
