Grey's Anatomy - The Complete Third Season (DVD, 2007, 7-Disc Set, Seriously Extended)

Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey|Theatrical release: 2006 | Rating: Not Rated

Movie synopsis

GREY'S ANATOMY revolves around the personal and professional lives of the doctors at Seattle's Grace Hospital, and examines the complex relationships involving Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), the bumbling George O'Malley (T.R. Knight), Addison Forbes Montgomery (Kate Walsh), and the arrogant Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington). GREY'S ANATOMY also stars Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, and Chandra Wilson. The show's successful formula relies on mixing intense medical procedures with its characters' emotional struggles. The third season starts off with the resolution of the love triangle of Meredith, Derek, and Finn Dandridge (Chris O'Donnell), while Isobel "Izzie" Stevens (Katherine Heigl) struggles to cope with her fiancé's death. This season of GREY'S ANATOMY also marked the departure of a central character, as Kate Walsh left to star in the spin-off PRIVATE PRACTICE, in which she leaves Seattle for Los Angeles.

The Network From Nowhere really knocked me for a loop by smacking the viewing audience upside its collective head with THREE strong series that came out winners: "Desperate Housewives" and "LOST" being the first two.

Now that we are well into the second season for both of those, and their story arcs are looking a little 'iffy', it's the third and most surprising contender, "Grey's Anatomy", that looks to be the strongest of the bunch. As the follow-up riding on "Housewives'" coattails, I was ready to dismiss it outright as "Ally McBeal in hospital scrubs." But not having much else to watch in that time slot, I decided to give it a try, and was I pleasantly shocked! Though there ARE some moments where the principal characters come off as self-centered, neurotic and at times downright eccentric, it never reached the level of absurdity that "Ally" often did, and thank God for that! Ellen Pompeo as Dr. Meredith Grey comes off as likable and probably more self-aware and introspective than self-absorbed and scatterbrained, though there are moments you do want to reach into the screen and give her a good shaking.

And good call on the ensemble casting! You really have to give props to any show that FINALLY figures out how to effectively showcase the sweet-and-sour charms of Sandra Oh, who was good enough to elevate a sow's ear of a show like "Arli$$," if not to save it. And not to mention give assorted actors who have all been great in projects not up to their talents, the chance to really shine in some very well-written roles, and I want to single out Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson and especially T.R. Knight as George, who is really coming into his own as this season progresses.

Not to snub Isaiah Washington, James Pickens, Jr., Kate Walsh or the so-hot-it's-criminal Patrick Dempsey. Seasoned vets all, it's just good to see them all land in a nice place where they can do great work with some sense of job security. (WE HOPE.)

Realistic enough to be accessible but not a turn-off, and whimsically light enough at other times without straying into "Stefan-the-Frog" territory, (are you listening, David Kelley?), "Grey's" should remain as a dependable Sunday night staple as long as creator/producer Shonda Rhimes and her crew are able to continue to strike that balance, and keep its newfound audience interested and entertained with the trials, tribulations and trysts of the staff at Seattle Grace Hospital.

Unbeatable Third Season for Grey's Anatomy

Created: 13/11/07
Complicated and unstable relationships, emotional conflicts, hard-to-believe cases, very indisciplined patients and competition - a lot of competition: that's the world of Seattle Grace Hospital shown in Grey's Anatomy. In television, sophisticated production and renowned actors may count, but no...that's not what makes a show unbeatable. The script, the story and the characters is what makes a winning show, and fortunately, Grey's Anatomy has this all in a very attractive way - the content, not the package, is what matters.

Running through all episodes of this third season, no one of them are to be disregarded. With no exception, they all are worth our time, as surprises and new astounding happenings unfold in each one, but there is a trio which makes this third season very distinguishable: "Walk On Water" (15), "Drowning on Dry Land" (16) and "Some Kind of Miracle" (17), all of three focused on Meredith's attempt of suicide (which in fact was initially caused by an accident) and that makes, for the time being, the most powerful set of episodes of the series history. All three together could make a movie! For more spoilers, don't forget to visit the abc.com website for the complete episode description. It's incredible how they manage to tell us ALMOST EVERYTHING that happens on each episode...but, seriously (huh?), watching it all on your DVD player will make a more pleasant experience. Take it!

This show is better and better

I am a late comer to Grey's Anatomy, I caught the first two seasons on netflix and had to get them all, so I just decided to buy season 3. I really did enjoy the season, I mean it had some ups and downs but all in all I thought it was really terrific. absolutely loved the first episode of the season with the flashbacks of things we had heard about since the pilot. Seeing the interns' mixer and seeing them all meet for the first time. Seeing Derek finding Addison chesting and how he left NY, then seeing how he and Meredith met. I actually liked seeing Derek and Finn both dating Meredith, kind of wished it lasted another episode at least but I thought it was great. I actually loved Derek and Meredith's arcs in this season, not how I wanted to end the season for them but I loved how close they were, they had a lot of playful moments before her Mother had her lucid day, loved the "no sex" episode and the snoring stuff, it was fun to watch Derek and Meredith laughing and playing. the drowning and seeing how it affected everyone tore me apart. Patrick Dempsey should have been given an Emmy for those two episodes, he broke my heart. Izzy's fallout after Denny was great for me as well, KH was terrific in all of her scenes, I especially loved when she saved the man on the ferryboat. I really was bummed at how the season ended , everyone was so miserable, but my only negative for this season was seeing the turn that George and Izzy made. I just loved them being friends and I want things back to seasons one and two where we would see Izzy and Mer climbing into bed with their buddy George at the end of a bad day. I miss those days for the three of them.

The extras were very good on this set, Ilove the audio commentaries and the bloopers ( I wish there were more cause it was funny to watch) and the behind the scenes stuff was great as well, can't wait to get the rest of the seasons that I am waiting for!

Another excellent Season

Created: 16/09/07
The third season of Grey's Anatomy does not disappoint their fans one bit! Excellent writing and acting throughout the entire season. Interesting and shocking plot twists right to the very last second of the season.

This has to be one of the best seasons of the show thus far. If you are a Grey's fan then this complete season is a must have, no doubt about it.

Who wouldn't want McDreamy and McSteamy sitting on their DVD rack?

This is a MUST BUY! One of the best shows on television right now!
