How the Grinch Stole Christmas (DVD, 2001, Full Frame)

Ron Howard, Jim Carrey, Molly Shannon|Theatrical release: 2000 | Rating: PG (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Director Ron Howard casts comedian Jim Carrey in the title role in this live-action adaptation of the famous Christmas tale by Dr. Seuss, giving this rendition of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS a delightfully manic spin. Carrey is virtually unrecognizable in his elaborate green makeup, but his anarchic comic touch is unmistakable. He manages to fully embody the grumpy title character, while still supplying his own comedic touches, and it is his performance that makes the film a treat for adults and children alike. The candy-colored set design for the town of Whoville and the jubilant score contribute to the overall feeling of innocuous fantasy that the Grinch disrupts with his dastardly deeds. The familiar story of the Grinch stealing every present in town on Christmas Eve has been expanded to incorporate flashbacks to the Grinch's childhood, which serve to explain his hostility toward the Whos. As Cindy Lou-Who, a little girl so sweet she sees goodness even in the Grinch, young Taylor Momsen strikes just the right note of adorable ingenuousness. Howard gets the performance the film needs from her, as her character makes the Grinch's eventual change of heart both believable and touching.

WHERE ARE YOU CHRISTMAS?

Created: 25/12/08
Jim Carrey shines as The Grinch in this live-action Christmas classic. This movie joins other Christmas tales as a true modern day Holiday movie classic.
Jim Carrey's performance in this true meaning of holiday movie is one of his best ever in a career filled with lackluster roles.
The story is as old as time- the mean old Grinch finds out what the true meaning of Christmas is- he sees the light.
A great green costume, a lovable dog, a widgety big-toothed child who overacts and supporting roles from Molly Shannon, Christine Baranski and others keeps this over-zealous movie in check. The theme song, Where are you Christmas?, will either make you cry or make you puke.
But on this most magical of days- We still Wish You a Merry Christmas. The message is clear- Christmas is a consumer's holiday as we wait for the limited edition of How the Grinch Stole Christmas to hit the shelves, so we can buy it for little Johnney JR. this Christmas.

Whoville Makes a Redemptive Analogy

Created: 05/03/08
It always nice to get what you are looking for, at a good price, and get it in good time. The Christmas season never passes for the true follower of Christ, and that is what Christmas is about, all the time God with us, Emanuel. We are in a dilemma, we humans made in God’s image, we are in an endless search for more life and more abundance of loving Who’s around us, belonging. So it is refreshing to put that into perspective with a fun and bright story turned into a movie, like the "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". Whoville, recreated by Ron Howard and with his creative team, makes a Who culture with the human condition showing up in everything it does and makes fun out of those making fun of the Grinch. From the costumes, makeup, buildings way inside that universe of a snowflake, we get to see an untouchable, the Grinch, react to those who have make fun of him and wins the characteristics behind his name: somebody who ruins enjoyment: somebody grouchy and contrary who spoils the fun of others. Then like we have seen so many times before in stories, the innocence, a child, investigates the reason for the Grinch’s condition, brings it to light, becomes a Peace Child. This is like and why Christ was born amongst us and the real reason we celebrate Christmas. A child was born unto us to help us redeem our place in the family of God. The child, Cindy Lou, is the agent of change in everyone, especially in the Grinch, who’s heart changes and even grows. Whoville comes to their senses, the spirit of the Christmas celebration is not about all the gifts, it is about redemption of the Whoville family. The Grinch even says he is sorry, he repents, he is forgive for his Grinchy attitude, even gets rewarded with his one and only sweetheart in his arms again. Whoville makes a redemptive analogy, and we can have more of Christ, Christmas, all year long with DVD movie “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”.

Awesome Christmas Classic

Created: 06/11/08
This is a spectacular rendition of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The storyline is true to the original animated version that I remember as a child with. The embellishments needed to create a full length film are beautiful, imaginative, and were created in true Seussian style.
Ron Howard does an amazing job directing this film. Jim Carrey’s interpretation of the The Grinch is charming, heartwarming, and hilarious.
This has become a Christmas favorite in my home.
We begin every holiday season by watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas and then decorating our home. We, due to how much my children love it, end up watching it at least three times a week until Christmas. Your family will, no doubt, love it as much as mine.

A Great Movie for the Family

Created: 18/04/09
Anyone would love this movie I know everyone has seen cartoons about the Grinch so everyone should have an idea about it. I love this movie just like any other Jim Carrey movie his a great actor. I bought this movie because when I first saw it I was young and it made me laugh as well as cry and learn. It makes you see that some people may be so grouchy but something made them that way and that us as people cant just push them away because we don't understand. As well as we shouldn't judge or be mean or even make fun of someone because of how they look we should always act the same with everyone because when we don't some people get hurt or hide from life because no one is willing to get close to them get to know them and just give them a chance. This movie just teaches a lot of stuff and this a main reason why I recommend it I promise you'll love it from beginning to end.
