Dark Comedy Hitman 90's Style
Created: 19/08/06
This is an offbeat, black comedy about a hit man, Martin Blank (John Cusack), who is undergoing some personal angst about his career choice. He sees a psychiatrist, Dr. Oatman (Alan Arkin), who, once he becomes aware of his patient's profession, wants nothing more to do with him. Moreover, a most unlikely, rival hit man (Dan Ackroyd) is on his tail, looking to clear the field of a potential rival. Bizarre mixture of hired assassin action film and romantic comedy is well done and pretty entertaining. The DOwnside is there are no special features on the DVD. Still a must have for any collection.

This would rank as one of my top ten favorite movies of all time. It's a dark comedy, that also has romance, with a great lines, as well as great, top notch actors.
One of my favorite lines would be one of Minnie Driver's:
"If you love someone, set them free. If they come back to you, well, they're broken."
It sort of sums up the life of Martin Blank, a hitman, who goes back to his hometown to do a job, as well as attend his high school reunion. He sort of rediscovers himself and reconnects with his old life. He meets up with Debi, his high school sweetheart, whom he stood up on prom night - to disappear completely out of sight, until the day before his high school reunion. Apparently, Debi's statement comes out as true - he does come back 'broken' ( a cold blooded murderer - to be precise) though his love for her, puts him back in line. He gets a new found respect for life and tries to win back his girl.
It's a fun movie to watch as it is entertaining for both the way it was written, as well as how great the actors portrayed their roles. I loved the scenes between Debi and Martin - especially the first time they meet. It was awkward but incredibly romantic - in weird sort of way.
It's one of those movies you won't mind watching over and over again.

Grosse Pointe Blank - Worth a watch!

For all you children of the 80's, here you go, this is a really good movie about a contract killer, graduated in 1986, who ends up going to his 10th year class reunion and meets up with his high school sweetheart played beautifully by Minnie Driver. Dan Ackroyd plays his nemesis, who is trying to eliminate his competition. Cusack is perfect for the role, the contract killer with the boyish good looks and who readily admits to everyone he meets that he is a contract killer, a claim no one seems to believe. This movie has a lot of humor to it, also, not just contract killing, so give it a try, you'll like it!

Another of my favorites from John Cusack! Little bit of action, little bit of romance, and a little bit of humor. Minnie Driver is cute and very funny in this flick. One you won't be able to watch just once.

Grosse Pointe Reunion!

I love this film. It is truly a classic already. It has the offbeat creativity of a film from the 80s, and has two big stars of that decade in the cast (Cusack and Akyroyd). Not only is Joan Cusack in the film accompanying her brother, but so is the other Cusack sister. Look for her in the film. The soundtrack in the film was great too, including many hits from the 80s due to the 10year class reunion occurring in the movie. If you liked this movie at all, make it a staple in your DVD collection.
