Grosse Pointe - The Complete Series (DVD, 2006, 2-Disc Set)

For those who may have missed it during its brief 2000-01 single-season run, Grosse Pointe was a spot-on spoof of the behind-the-scenes workings of a "Beverly Hills, 90210"-esque hit teen show. What made this premise work is that the show's creator, Darren Star, was also the creator of none other than 90210 itself.

It's easy to spot and hilarious to see which Grosse Pointe characters are thinly-veiled versions of Shannen Doherty, Tori Spelling, Luke Perry and other veteran 90210 cast members and the regularly interspersed clips of the show-within-a-show (also called "Grosse Pointe") are cheesy melodrama at its best.

Clearly ahead of its time, Grosse Pointe failed to find an audience to sustain it beyond its first season, but fans of shows like Entourage and The Larry Sanders Show would no doubt enjoy this smart satire on the entertainment industry

The Grosse Pointe dvd set contains the complete series run of 17 episodes plus extra features and bonus commentaries on selected episodes.

I have been waiting for this show to come out on DVD. It is a tongue and cheek homage to the teen dramas from the WB, FOX and UPN. Clever writing, great performances that reflect back to stars from those teen dramas. I especially love the characters played by Lindsay Sloane (Bring It On and Sabrina the Teenage Witch) and the underdog character played by Kyle Howard. It's a shame this only played for one season. It never got the chance to develop an audience that it deserved. Done by Darren Star, who produced "Sex in the City".

Grosse Pointe has aged well. Many shows after one airing, you have no desire to see again. that is not true for this show. Well written, a great spoof, perfectly cast. This DVD is a great addition to anyones collection. A shame only 17 episodes were made........ a fun comedy precursor to Entourage, if you ask me.

wanted to buy this becasue it is about a fictional high school set in grosse point michigan, and was very dissapointed by the acting and the story-line.

A very nice and funny television series which depicts different actor's life, anguish and toil, for a future career, with a gay theme, which makes the whole series more interesting. Sleek and sexy actress does not make the series worse, and they bring with them a proven team from various reputable and well known among other things, "Sex and the City", and it can not be so much more than a success of it. Buy it, see it and are pleased with its contents.
