Groundhog Day (DVD, 2008, 15th Anniversary Edition)

Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell|Theatrical release: 1993 | Rating: PG-13 (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Once again, for the fifth year in a row, TV weatherman Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is forced to cover the Groundhog Day ceremonies in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, an assignment he truly despises. But this year something truly bizarre happens after he finishes the report: When he wakes up the next morning, ready to leave, he discovers it's February 2 all over again. He tries to tell his producer, Rita (Andie MacDowell), what's happening, but neither she nor anyone else understands; only he remembers that they've already lived through Groundhog Day. When the same thing happens the next morning, he thinks he's going insane and wreaks havoc all through the town. More and more mornings pass, all of them February 2, and all of them with an ever angrier Phil. Desperate to escape, he even tries suicide, but still another February 2 dawns. As he starts realizing that his exploits are not making time march on any quicker, Phil begins to change his behavior, performing a series of lifesaving tasks until he becomes a model citizen, hoping it will be enough to get him out of Punxsutawney forever. Along the way he learns more about the people around him--and himself--than he ever thought possible. The film is extremely well put together by director Harold Ramis, and the script by Danny Rubin and Ramis is sharp and clever. The actors--many of whom have to perform essentially the same scene over and over again, with only subtle differences--are a riot.

Come Again?

Created: 08/02/09
Bill Murray finds himself living the same day over and over again with no explanation why. Little by little his selfish impulses are overcome by compassion for the people he shares his day with, only to discover that no matter what you do some things are beyond your reach.

Will Bill's rehabilitation be enough to win the heart of Andie McDowell and break free from times restraints? Or will Puxatawny Phil (Groundhog) win the day?

It's funny, sweet, endearing and clever.

Then they do it again and again - in new combinations.

If you like Bill Murray or Andie you're in for a treat. And if yo're just looking for a cute date movie then you've found that too.

Dont forget the popcorn!

This film is so clever from start to finish. You get to see into the life of a dull news reporter reporting one of the most dullest events and somehow it becomes entertaining. He wakes up the next day only to realize he is living the same day over and over again. Then by the end of the movie you get to see his character change completetly after his unexplainable journey. Very enjoyable and Bill Murray's greatest performance. Highly recommend!!!

Fantastic movie, loved every minute of it

This movie is a comedy and a religious text. It's not preachy nor does it subscribe to any formal religion, I mean that it makes you think about what it would be like to live in Bill Murray's shoes. He's forced to relive the same day over and over again until he gets it right. It is Bill Murray at his best (Zombieland anyone?) and it's heartwarming.

Funny, Funny, Funny

This is Bill Murray at his best. I saw the movie in the theater when it first came out and have seen it on tv a time or two. I have never tired of watching it (it ranks right up there with "Driving Miss Daisy" longevity record for me). He is just great

Bill Murray=Genius

Groundhog day has Bill Murray in it and seriously, how could anyone think this guy is not funny? He's probably the most underrated actor of all time. I mean really...what's wrong with all those bums at the academy that they haven't realized yet that Bill Murray is better than everyone. Everyone should buy Groundhog day cos not only does Bill Murray's comic genius inspire you to cure cancer or invent the longer-lasting lightbulb, the movie isn't half bad either.

Now who you gonna call?!?
